Xtreme makeover
At some as-yet-undefined point in the future, Chevrolet promises a high-performance SS version of its Colorado midsize pickup, but until then we’ll have to be content with the 2005 Colorado Xtreme. The appearance and suspension package features a 1.6-inch lower stance and sport suspension with gas-charged monotube shocks, front and rear antiroll bars, special 18-inch wheels and low-profile tires, body-colored front fascia, rear fascia and rocker extension moldings, and a spoiler on the tailgate.
A metallic grille and special badging complete the package. Xtreme engine offerings are not extreme, but include the 175-hp, 2.8-liter inline four-cylinder, or the 220-hp, 3.5-liter inline five. The Colorado Xtreme package, which will add about $3,000 to a Colorado’s sticker when it arrives in September, is offered in red, black, white
or yellow.

The headlights seem weird below the turn signals - it reminds me of the '65 Ford F-150 we had, but on the Ford it looked pretty good.

Re: Chevy gives its Colorado pickup an Xtreme makeover
I was checking out a red Xtreme while shopping for Colorado Z71 trucks. Looks really nice and the spoiler on the tailgate looks good and doesn't get in the way of using the bed at all. Overall a nice little truck. I hate the seats though, they're not very comfortable.
Re: Chevy gives its Colorado pickup an Xtreme makeover
I've seen a red crew cab Xtreme, and I think it looks good. The reg/extended cabs will look great, IMO.
As for the engine, I'm holding out hope for some small block magic. Check out the Woodward Dream Cruise concepts thread to see what I mean...
EDIT: My engine hope is in response to the question about a "Colorado SS" in the original post. If Riceeating5.0 was using SS interchangably with Xtreme, then I misread it. The Xtreme would be as described in his clipping. The SS would be something down the road, and I was saying I'd like to see a small block in that, should it happen. I thought he meant "this Colorado SS" as in "this Colorado SS we've been talking about, now that we know what the Xtreme will be like."
Even without an SS, though, I think the 4.8 or 5.3 should be placed under the hood to easily counter the high hp V6 in the upcoming Frontier and the V8 in the Dakota...

Re: Chevy gives its Colorado pickup an Xtreme makeover
Don't really care for the Xtreme, but my interests are more with the upcoming SS model. According to this article, GM promises a High performance SS version of the Colorado. Just seeing if there were any rumors on the powerplant. I'm hoping they'd do more than just the regular I-5.
The smallblock sounds very good. A Turbo version of the I-5 would be just as cool too.
