The new Silverado never did take off for GM, not even in its first year. After owning an 04,05,06 and now an 07 Classic Silverado, I must say I wont be buying a fugly new style Silverado.

Try 2001 in GWB's first term. The economy was contracting leading up to Sep 11 (remenber the dot com collapse?)and that obviously made it worse.

Proclamations have nothing to do with people living beyond their means and up to their eyballs in debt who can no longer use their home "equity" like an atm machine to go buy a new car and other frivolous items.

If fullsize pickups are not selling, maybe there is market for the UTE after all.

Funny, the only place I see the new Tundra around IL is sitting on the lots. I see at least a dozen brand new Silverados and probably 3-5 GMC Sierras every day, and I drive all over the state for work. I maybe see 1 or 2 new Tundras in a week, sometimes not at all. No one around here wants the ugly things. I know of 2 guys who bought the new Tundra and have already gotten rid of them, one of a new Silverado, the other for a Dodge Ram.

I'm surprised Buick still sells anything. I never thought they would last this long after they got rid of Oldsmobile. I would certainly drop Buick if I was in charge.

I would consider that an inherited recession from Clinton.

Tons of money was being spent during the DotCom boom and the administration did nothing but send it all to first Mexico, then China.

2000 was an election year and the media had to get a democrat in office so nothing was said about it.

Sad to see:
* The ADVERTISING BUDGET for the Tundra will likely exceed the the budgets for Ford and GM trucks combined this year, yet it will only sell 30% as many trucks.
* If return on investment is significant, I hope Toyota included an 8-digit advertising budget in their ROI analysis for the vehicle from conception
* US fabrication shops are profiting on increased volume recently... apparently all of the special effects equipment (teeter-totters, ramps, swings, pendulums, tracks, etc) that Toyota is having made is keeping many fab shops hopping
* Local film writers and producers are seeing a surge in business. Apparently they are producing new 20-second commercials at the same rate as Toyota is producing actual Tundras.
* Toyota has managed to squash the tailgate issue from public view despite it's continued presence
* Toyota has managed to squash the driveshaft issue too
* Toyota's Tundra is more of a gas-hog than any Superduty diesel offered by Ford, Chevy, or Dodge, and they offer more cargo and towing hands-down... all 3 of them. You want to work, or ride?
* Sad to see idiots keep buying "junk" from Toyota because in their mind "domestic vehicles are sub-par", yet the Tundra has been a lack-luster vehicle from the beginning but still gets loyalty due to it's name.
Sort of defines "hypocricy" in my eyes.

Lastly... sad to see that Toyota is going to literally buy their way into US domination... in sales, volume, markets, and even NASCAR's championship.

America has no soul anymore... we sold it to foreign investors for a cheap buck.

I just talked to another friend of mine that bought a new Tundra. He just had to have the torque converter replaced and the truck has 3000 miles on it. Anyone know anything more about this defect? I haven't heard anything about the torque converters yet. Apparently it was shaking the truck so bad at any speed over 45mph it wasn't driveable. I told him to check the driveshaft too, he said he still hadn't heard anything about recalls for it.

Yep

I like the way the new Silverados look, with the exception of the fender flares...they just don't quite look right. I will say that this is the first body style that I've thought the Sierras looked better than the Silverados though.

Yeah, another Toyota bashing thread. I don't think you can blame Toyota for the drop off in GM's truck sales. Toyota didn't get 'there' by chance. Toytoa sell vehicles on badge integrity alone while also having the right vehicles for 99% of the population.

GM must figure out how to build great cars across the range instead of just building great trucks. GM's small, medium and large cars are hardly inspiring (except for Cadillac's CTS). More work to be done I'm afraid.

I can't believe I'm sticking up for Toyota... but how else is GM going to convince potential buyers that it builds great vehicles if the product doesn't wow its target audience?

Yeah, the evidence posted IN THIS THREAD doesn't show this at all. Tundra is barely treading water and still sells at a tiny fraction of GM/Ford/Dodge.

Its funny how just the word "Tundra" drives some of you crazy. Y'all have toyota-on-the-brain worse than the people who actually drive them.
