Hey, that's a really cool car. It's kinda hard for people here to appreciate.

I don't think he's going to get 26,000 for it..and he probably has more than that in it...

How does this car belong to a buddy of yours? Isn't the guy in Saudi Arabia? I thought it wasn't changed to US specs?

If your buddy has this car, ask him what is involved in changing this car to US specs to be able to register it. I'm kinda wondering why he is selling it. Could it be that to modify it is too much?

Exclamation

I think there's something wrong with this picture!

This is a 2002 Commodore Lumina from Australia, meaning it's not more than a year old. You can import cars to the US for 12 months for personal or developmental use, but after that year, you must ship them back, or destroy them. YOU CAN NOT SELL THEM HERE INSTEAD!!

To get them into complience here takes many thousand dollars, not because there's so much to do on the Holden, but because of the fees and duties involved getting Customs & the Department of Transportation (till recently, my employer) to sign off on it. EPA is, in fact, a non issue, because the powerplant is US sourced, and passes US emissions. But you still must pay them (as well) to certify it

$26,000 sounds cheap for doing all that, even though these things sell for about $22K in Oz.

The first thing I'd ask (after whether it's legal to sell it or not), is if it even legal to drive on the street once the 12 month's up (assuming the year isn't yet).

Judging by the bids so far, seems other people are asking this question as well.....and they SHOULD!

Whats up Rob!

I know of the guy that owns the car....it did run 13.6 at the track. Don't know why he's selling, haven't heard any buzz of it lately around here. It really created quite a stir in the area when it was at the track a few times.

Based on what this car looks and feels like, I have big hopes for the GTO when it arrives.

OK, a few things need to be straightened out. First it is a 2002 Chev Lumina SS from the middle east (left hand driver version of the Commodore SS). So if it is going to be sent back anywhere it will be the middle east as that is where it would have come from.

The other thing was that this car was suppost to be owned by a middle eastern diplomat (I believe, or maybe it was the son of? can't remember now) which had diplomatic plates. I don't know if that makes it pretty much immune to local laws while under their ownership. Some on here might know I hope.

If what crYnOid said is true, it's doubtful that car can legally be sold here without some emissions modifications.

Middle-Eastern Holdens, unlike Holdens sold in Australia & New Zealand don't have emissions equptment. All cars sold in the middle east are made to run on regular fuel, and don't have converters, and as far as I know, air injection systems either.

On the other hand, if it's carrying State Department plates (also known as "diplomatic plates"), it is pretty much immune to regulatory laws as long as the owner is here as a diplomat. I imagine (and I'm speculating only) that under those conditions, a diplomat could possibly legally sell it, and it would be up to the buyer to bear the expense of getting it certified through all the US government agencies, or "dispose" of it.

Like I said before, there was something that didn't sound right about that.
