In the official rules list for its Dr. Z sweepstakes, DaimlerChrysler lists the 'Approximate Retail Value' of the 2008 Dodge Challenger R/T at $30,000. The R/T model has long been described as having a 425 horsepower 6.1 liter Hemi. Rumors have suggested the Challenger will be offered with a choice of two V8 engines and a manual transmission only. Planned production is believed to be in the ballpark of 30,000 units annually. Recent rumors have also indicated a 6.6-liter Hemi was in the works for a range-topping SRT Challenger. Chrysler has said the production Challenger will be identical to the concept.
Re: Challenger pricing.........
Being that only 10-12,000 Mustang Cobras were sold at $35,000, 8-9,000 Mach 1s were sold at around $28,000, 11,000 Camaro SS at $30K, 7,000 Bullitt Mustangs at around $28K, 15,000 WS6s at $32,000, and finally, 14-17,000 GTOs at $32,000, I wonder where on earth this Challenger number of 30,000 annually at $30,000 comes from?
If I was going to start production number rumors, I'd at least make sales in the ballpark of what the competition has been selling.

Save for the GTO, which is 400hp LS2 for $30k. Still the Challenger with more HP and more daring styling looks to me like it'd sell better.

Go around most enthusiast message boards and people generally drool over the Challenger. It will be interesting to see, when pricing is announced and the chips are down, how many of these people actually follow through on their claims and buy one.

IMO, being *THAT* retro with modern details is daring. It hasn't been done to this extent yet.
I guess the thing is, I'm not sure if they'd sell a ton at $30k, but at that price it is a bargain when you consider that the Charger or Magnum at $31k or $32k only come with the smaller 340hp Hemi.

Re: Challenger pricing.........
You know, it may be very hard choosing between a Camaro and a Challenger when the time comes. The Challenger is retro, and it's fat, yes, but it's distinctive, and (this is most important) . . .
I actually have a decent idea of what it will look like.
Chrysler stated that it will look just like the concept. That's encouraging, because the car looks GOOD.
Whereas GM has said they'll do something "similar" to the Camaro concept. Given the transformations we've seen between GM concept and production in the past, this isn't giving me any warm and fuzzy feelings here.
The Camaro could be great . . . but I really hope we know what it's REALLY going to look like by the time I can place an order for a Challenger.

Well, the challenger will give everyone in the 'mobile estates' something to work hard towards for many years to come. The only Mopar fans I know, have less disposable income than teeth....and that's giving them a lot of 'credit'....oh snap! hahaha I slay myself sometimes.

Unique? Have you ever looked at a Challenger before? It's a complete lift, there is nothing unique about it except that it's got bigger wheels.

But back on topic, I think the sales will come in the first few years and then taper off quite a bit afterwards. It's obvious that a lot of people plan on buying them (that I've talked to anyway) and I'm sure they'll be able to sell that many.
