Re: Challenger concept getting coverage

Lets see how much press the Camaro gets and if it is mostly postive.

The fear I have is that the "released" pics of the Camaro bore a strong resemblance to the 99 GTO Concept in overall design. The GTO concept got panned pretty bad in 1999. If it would have gotten rave reviews, today we would be driving a GTO based on that rather than the Monaro.

I think the Camaro may have the same fact. I hope that I'm dead wrong about that.

the devil is in the details.. while there are some similarities in overall lines and shape between the old GTO concept and the leaked clay Camaro rendering.. i think the details are what doomed that GTO.. the thing was not very good looking

I agree. It was very garish in it's appearance. Almost cartoon like. The leaked pics of the Camaro reminded of the same thing. Almost a caricature of the 69 Camaro. Very garish in it's appearance.

The '99 GTO was hideous. The designer was some young guy who said he'd never looked at a vintage GTO, and it showed. The spy pix of the new Camaro are hot, which suggests that the actual concept will be at least as hot. Biiiiig difference.

i don't see how you could find the leaked clay model pics garish

i agree the GTO concept was very garish, but compared to that, the leaked model looks very tasteful by comparison.. not over the top at all

Maybe. To my eyes they both look similiar. Very angular. The C-pillar, B-pillar and rear fenders the way they swoop are almost the same.

Look at both pics side by side, you will see what I mean.
