Can we call a spade a spade, and just say that Saturn was a failure?
There are very few Saturn dealers here. If I was interested on one...I would have to drive past a ton of other brand's dealers before I got to a Saturn dealer. This is where not having Saturn in GM's normal dealer chain hurts.
I dislike the current Saturn because it is what Chevy should be. I am not sure how Saturn is what Buick used to be. All I remember Buick being is the boxy car with bench seats that your grandma drove. I honestly would love for China to get useless Buick exclusivly. Then put Saturn and Pontiac togethor with Saturn moving a little more upscale to near Lexus range. May seem like a streach..but no more a streach than Buick competing with Lexus.

I think Saturn should become GM's "technology" brand. Make every car a hybrid - they don't need to be weak-*** compact cars, just the same models with hybrid powertrains. For performance models (like the Sky), make the electric motors provide a power assist to boost performance.

formula79 your comments completely lose me, you dislike saturn because its what chevy should be? I think Chevy and Saturns product lines are good. Two full car lines with a family resemblance. But the BPG lines share no resemblance and the development costs of stocking ONE dealership with three different brands is ridiculus. People on here like to point out that the Saturn Outlook is one lamda too many, yet on a BPG lot they park Enclaves and Acadias next to each other. Sure they outsell the Outlook, they get more advertising. Two Lamdas on one lot, two W platforms on one lot, soon to be two eplisions on one lot.
Do you see where you contradict yourself? Lets work together here, OK? GM owned Saturn from the start, period. GM owned the tooling to make the Fiero spaceframe, that tooling was sent to Spring Hill to be modified and make the S-series Saturns. The plastic body panels were used on several models (from the U-vans to the Fiero) they were NOT exclusive to Saturn nor were they the same as the Fiero panels. The 1.9 SOHC and DOHC 4 cylinders were modified Opel 4 cylinders.
While the union contract and negotiations were unique everything else was pure GM.

Again, my whole point is the initial intent was to provide a car made with the highest percentage of american parts, made by americans to showcase american quality. They did not leave off GM badging to distance themselves from GM or American cars. They did it because they wanted their own brand identitiy. Sort of like Scion and Toyota but for drastically diffrent reasons.
