Question Can someone confirm this Z06 info.

Next Z06 has a 6.3 liter LS6 derived engine, 24 valve pushrod running 500 hp @ 7,000 rpm?

This is from Motor Trend, so I'm curious as to if anyone else has heard this elsewhere.

(in case you're curious, that's around 391 cubic inches)

That sounds like the numbers that have been floating around here. I know that it's not a confirmation. But if it floats around this board, it's gotta be right

I thought 406 ci displacement was being thrown around not too long ago.

The displacement is the question.
I've heard some reports that GM is sticking to the LS6 block and no stroking so 5.7L. I've also heard the 6.3L rumors but those are from less credable sources. I'd bet on a 24 OHV setup though.
I'm fairly certain now contrary to what I beleived earlier that the C6 Z06 will have 500hp.

500 HP seems so unrealistic for a 'Vette in the next 2 years. I'm thinking 450 - 475 HP rating maximum. Why would they up the rating 100 HP in two years when they can get the same or even more sales in the long run by upping the HP rating little by little each year?

My guess is to keep up with the Viper/GT since both will have outputs in the sub-500+ range.

So what ever happened to the "camless" Z06 rumors that supposedly got 30 some odd people fired at GM?!?

It was one of many futuristic engine designs being contemplated. When push came to shove it didn't pan out, though I don't know why. Maybe for the C7 ...

Wink

500 HP... and if LSx powertrain team stay true to form, it will still get 20/30 mpg (wth the crappy skipshift enabled of course).

There was a thread earlier (last month?) that said the next generation chevy engine would be 3 valves per cylinder.

The latest Ive been getting on C6 powertrain rumors is:

"LS2" 6.0l 425hp.
"LS7" 6.0l 475-500hp for MY2006.

I don't have anything close to a firm lock on those figures, but a few of the places I get some info do not disagree with it... not sure how to take that.
