If they are going to keep the costs down it will come with struts...
If they are going to make it over priced (think GTO) then it should come with SLA.

SLA is better, but...

BMW uses struts, and I don't hear too many complaining about how they handle.

I have no problem with struts.

1) There are many $20K cars out there with a sophisticated SLA front suspension.

2) The "over priced" GTO comes with struts.

I can't see the Camaro going "backwards" engineering-wise by using struts again.

Unfortunately, front struts are a distinct possibility for a 5th gen.

I voted struts. The ride might be harsh, but no Camaro from the factory (non-1LE's too, etc..) has hit .92 G's or .9 G's on a consistent basis before or after the IROC-Z28 or felt the same in the turns IMO definetly. But I like options. Have both.

Struts had nothing to do with the cornering capability, besides the 4th gen uses a modified strut anyways... and yes the SS cars hit .92 g's, the Z28's were around .84 or something.

Wheres the proof?? The highest a 4th Gen ever got was .91 G's and that was an 02 SLP SS 1LE, not quite a regular production model as an IROC was, and with 16's and 245's at that. Third Gen front suspension is/was better for no compromise high G handling. SLA is more compliant.

Suspension engineers try to strike the right balance between ride and handling. One of the reasons that 3rd gens handled so well was their resticted wheel travel. They handled well in spite of their struts. SLA's geometry allows more compliance with less deflection.

If done right...you have the potential for better ride and handling.

Well, whatever they have to do to get real impressive handling/feel again I guess.

My only experience with owning a car with struts are the fox Mustangs I had, which isn't a perfect example since the rear end was where the problem (and the lack of any real weight) was. On the flip side, BMWs have an exceptional handling reputation using struts.

MN12 Thunderbirds are SLA as is Camaro, and both have exceptional reputations, but in the Bird's case, it also has a still world class rear suspension.

Perhaps the question shouldn't so much be SLA vs Struts, but directed more towards the reas suspension, since that's what seems to make or break a car's handling.

I know that BMW works magic with it's 3-series front struts. But what I find interesting is while developing the 4th gen...the program was given literally nickels and dimes to evolve it from the 3rd gen.The lion's share of that money was used to replace the 3rd gen's struts, with the 4th gen's SLA.

How ironic, if after a decade and a half, the 5th gen goes back to struts, just to save afew bucks. (And I can assure you that is the only reason to do it.)
