Are Camaro enthusiasts not very picky?
Re: Are Camaro enthusiasts not very picky?
I consider myself to be pretty picky. The camaro should be stylistically what it has been for 20+ years-Low, aggressive, sporty and distinctive. It should be more towards the sports car end of the specrum than the muscle car/pony car end-i.e. more 2x2 corvette and less GTO/mustang. It should have T-tops. Last, but not least, it should be inexpensive and have a kickass V8 as an option.

That's all fine and dandy, yet it is crossing a line when they declare other Camaro entusiasts as "not real enthusiasts" simply because others don't share their very specific criteria as to what makes a Camaro.... especially when some of their very own criteria are things that have not been part of a Camaro in decades if at all... Re: Are Camaro enthusiasts not very picky?
Why be picky about things that are not important? Oh look...I want the car to be called Z/28 not Z28. Does that make someone more of an enthusiast?
The car has always been about performance w/o the extra frills, most people just want the car to stick to the formula. The reality is, at the cost we want this car to be we can't exactly act like we are spending $100K on it. We know there are going to be some compromises and we don't want it to be the performance.
Performance is exactly what being a Camaro enthusiast is about, IMO.

Re: Are Camaro enthusiasts not very picky?
I'm very picky about my Camaro, even though I want a RWD High HP V8, I want it non-retro with some cues from the past, as light as possible, a badass interior, very sporty suspension and handling. I want it to be the best Camaro built every time it's built, not just a rushed sports car that's a piece of **** like (Mustang) (caugh).....

Camaro enthusiasts on cars......
On GTO: Those jerks! That's not a GTO! No scoops. Looks like a Grand Am.
On Charger: Those idiots! That's a 4 door. That's no Charger!
On Mustang: Blahhhhhh. Those Morons. Is that a '67 Mustang or an '05? Mays sucks! I hate retro!.
On Camaro: ummmmmmm....... I'm just tired of waiting. Gimme whatever you've got. Don't want to put too much pressure on the smart people at GM. I promise not to be too picky.

Lemme see how I fall in under these points:
1) GTO: Well, obviously, I like it.. lol.
2) Charger: Ya, 4 doors does NOT a Charger make... terrible here. But, I don't think we have to worry about a 4 door Camaro.
3) Mustang: I like it, but my stance on retro is well known. Of course, styling is a subjective view, so I suppose there is no right or wrong, just personal opinion.

I think Ford "gets it".

I have read on this board and on many other boards that if Chevy comes out with a "RWD Coupe" and calls it Camaro they will buy it. That is the only classification they give. Also, I have read that if Chevy comes out with a "RWD coupe" and doesn't call it Camaro, they will be very mad. So, if the Monte Carlo is switched to RWD and Chevy doesn't call it Camaro, those people will be mad. There are also people who have said aslong as it is RWD and a V8 and says Camaro on the bumper, they will buy it. Is that being very picky?

As a group, I think we are a little more demanding of what constitutes a Camaro, than just make it a RWD coupe and call it a day.

With all that said, the "doom and gloom" regarding a Zeta-based Camaro is all speculation. Who's to say a Camaro at 190 inches wouldn't sell? The new Mustang, if you haven't noticed, has grown pretty considerably in dimensions compared to the SN95 and I DON'T think it will have any problems selling. If the next Camaro has good merits, styling, is attractively priced and the performance models go like stink....people, enthusiasts included, won't be upset if it isn't the size of a G35 (the measuring stick example for your ideal Camaro Z284ever, if I remember right).

I don't want a Camaro the size of the SN95 Mustang. That would be too damn small. The G35 is also a little on the small side. Personally I can't see how a Monaro/GTO sized sedan, with a little more rake and a slightly lower roofline couldn't be a great starting point for a sports coupe.
I don't want a 1st gen inspired retro car, although I love 1st gen Camaros and they have always been my favorites. I want something that is inspired by all previous generations with evolutionary styling that says Camaro from the first time I lay eyes on it. Of course it has to be RWD, V8 and the Z28 version has to be a competive road car out of the box.
I don't think the GTO looks bad without the scoops, in fact without them it looks stealthy... JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL GTOs DID.
I don't hate the 2005 Mustang, in fact I think J Mays is a genious and pretty much everything he touches turns to gold. Plus, although the 2005 Mustang has many retro cues, I do not think its merely a 67-8 Mustang fastback dropped on a modern day chassis.
I don't care what Chrysler stuffs a V8 Hemi into. They're stupid idea of sticking a Ram truck nose on everything is some of the blandest styling I've ever seen come out of Detroit. I'd much rather have a chrome bar and bowtie than a four-door sedan with a truck nose that I'm supposed to think is cool just because it has a V8 and someone gives it a nostaglic pedigree. The automotive media have become lemmings for anything with a HEMI.
I don't want a RWD Monte Carlo, or reincarnated Chevelle. I want a Camaro, and make mine a Z28. (Blue with white stripes.
)With all the things I don't want, how could anyone say I'm not picky?
