Camaro coming says Autoweek
Ok, so why am I the first to post this (or did I miss something?). Usually when I find interesting news, it's already posted here but I haven't seen this tidbit on this site yet. Just read it in this week's AutoWeek:
Looks like GM is finally talking!
Camaro coming?
Faced with the imminent introduction of an already highly praised all-new 2005 Mustang this fall and nothing in the showroom to do battle with it, General Motors is eyeing a return to the pony car wars. So says Chevrolet general manager Brent Dewar when asked about plans for a future Mustang fighter. Says Dewar: “We’re working on that. We’ll have a competitor.”

Well a competitor can mean a lot of things..... Cobalt SS to a Kappa in Chevy form. But it seems like some facts are lining up that point to the Camaro joining the Zeta line with the GTO. I have a feeling thats the car Dewar is talking about. Good for us!

See, if this was some 10 years ago, I could see a FWD car going up against the Mustang because thats what GM was all about. But now, with 2 new RWD chassis hot off the presses, and a RWD chassis that has been getting great praise from the industry, I doubt that it will be a Delta body Cobalt.

I have no doubt that Dewar and GM truly mean this time the Camaro/GTO Zeta line is the true competitor but they do certainly leave themselves an easy exit if pressed on the issue!
Check out the latest edition of Hot Rod. In the blub about Aloha Dream Car's 2004 HRSS-454, they mention the Chevrolet pony car competitor and predict that it will be called... drumroll please....

I don't have a good feeling about this................ I am very apperhensive that GM might use a name other than Camaro for the Mustang "competitor", and that would be a big mistake. Wasn't it about a month ago when it was posted on here that the head of Chevrolet supposely said that the new RWD Coupe would not be called Camaro. Recently Chevy has dumped alot of the names of there old cars for new ones when the models went through a redesign, part of the "American Revolution" I guess.
How many here would be greatly bothered if the "competitor" wasn't called Camaro?
And how many here don't really care about the name, you just want a affordable Chevy RWD Coupe with a V8?

If the Chevy "Competitor" is not called Camaro... I may look elsewhere for my next RWD V8 American Coupe.
