What a great news day Too bad no big HP engine yet though.... :blah:

 

320HP is pretty good, it is as much as a LS1 Camaro

but if it is BIG HP you are looking for I guess you will have to wait for the V-series.

I think the tire sizes are wrong. With those sizes the front tires will be taller than the back

 

I guess no one noticed the wheelbase vs the overall length, huh?

You guys need to look beyond just horsepower numbers.

Other things overlooked:
* It has pushbutton keyless ignition .
* It has 17" front brakes! Misprint perhaps?
* It's steering wheel is heated.
* It has bigger tires in the rear, than it does up front (235s vs 255s)
* It has tire pressure sensors
* The performance has a Power steering cooler!
* The engine fan is mechanically driven, not electrically driven.
* It's almost 58" tall!
* and finally, it's fuel tank is only 17 gallons. Same as the CTS, but less than the GTO (18.5), the Lincoln LS (18), and the current Cadillac Seville (18.5 gallons). All which get better fuel economy than is expected for the new STS.

 

My guesses and thoughts:
* I think the 16" and 17" notes are for the sizes of the wheels that the different brakes go on.
* The rear 255/45 tires are .3" shorter than the front 235/50
* Mechanical fan? Sheesh! At least there's another 10hp gain by switching to electrics
* I think (hope) the height is a typo
* And I hope the fuel tank is over 20gallons. With that height and weight, it will need a bigger tank

 

Definately a misprint.

 

The back are wider than the front, the front are taller than the back, not by much though. I can't see why GM would do this, I bet it will change. I don't think the gas tank is a big deal, 1.5 gallon less than the car it replaces isn't that much.

It sounds like it is going to be a great car Can't wait to see it, definatly has some wourld class features. Glad 17" rims will be standard, 18" an option, it's about time GM gets away from 16" on expensive cars. AWD option is cool too.

 

SO it has options for RWD, or AWD?

 

they should definitely do something on the Northstar for Caddys. its a pretty good engine as it is and its quite big. but VW/Audi gets 340hp - 360hp from their 4.2L V8 @ 7000rpm. the larger 4.6l Northstar should have no trouble matching this at a lower rpm. GM should tune the Northstar more aggresively if Caddy is truely aiming for "world class".

 

I think in the XLR you are right, but in the other cars it should stay how it is. More aggresive = worse gas milage.


DarthIROC - it looks like RWD is standard, AWD optional.

 

The Audi 4.2 DOHC has 40 valves...
