Cadillac ELR

http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f...ac-elr-105229/

So that is what they are going to call the production Converj? I hate the name. I think the alpha-numeric stuff works for their bread and butter line up, but for halo cars like this they need a name. Would the Escalade have been such a big pop culture hit if it was called Cadillac ELT?

I tend to agree, but they are following in the footsteps of BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc who all have numbers or letters for their vehicle names. 335, 135, E-class, C-class, S-class, A6, S5, R8, etc.

How do you beat the competition if all you do is copy them? Converj is a cool name. I don't mind a few 3-letter names in the lineup but not for every car in the lineup. Names are much easier to remember and identify a product with.

Re: Cadillac ELR

Lemme guess: "Electric with Long Range"?

Regardless of where the letters came from, it sounds stupid. Just use Converj (or something better).

Re: Cadillac ELR

Yeah this is a pretty poor name. It sounds too much like a household cleaner.

As far as I've ever heard, roadster = droptop / convertible (or roofless car like an AC Cobra)

Yeah, I know, but the CTS coupe is still called CTS as in sedan.

True, but it should have been CTC since CTS stands for Catera Touring Sedan.

Perhaps ELR actually stands for Eldorado Long Range.

depends how accurate you want to be about "roadster."

Roadster as Ive known it anyway, is not a convertible where the roof folds behind the seats. It is roofless 2 seater like you mentioned with the AC Cobra where the roof if there is one snaps in. Viper is another. The 57 Thunderbird is another.

The mazda miata convertible is not an actual roadster, as the roof folds in behind the seats. It is a convertible.

Actually now that I think about it, In an episode of Overhauling during a build Chip Foose realizes a car may look better as a roadster rather than a convertible they planed to make the car used in that episode;

Chip Foose asks "do you want this to be a convertible or a roadster, as a roadster has no top. I really think this car might look better as a roadster."

The guys wife asks "what happens when it rains?"

Foose replies. "you get wet..."
