Buh Bye Celica and MR2

05 is the year that they end. Less competition for the Cobalt.

I could swear that the celica has been mentioned here before. The spyder is news to me though. Too bad, it was a pretty decent looking roadster.

Toyota's age group just shot up 40 years. Welcome to the *Old-Man-Zone*

I just read somewhere that Toyota was mulling over making a v6 mr2 with around 300hp.

I don't understand why people think less competition is a good thing.

I don't think anyone shopping for a MR2 would be cross-shopping for a cobalt anyway. Maybe a solstice, but not cobalt.

All that pressure to produce a higher quality product goes down. People feel better when everyone else has to step down to their level.

The Celica went away so it wouldnt stomp on tCs feet...And MR2 shouldnt suprise you if you look at its production numbers...Was getting pretty sad towards the end there.

I will miss the Celica. The car performed pretty well.

Will the 180hp Celica engine still be produced though? I imagine so, with Lotus using it for the Elise and Exige.

Toyota is putting a lot of faith in the Scion brand if it is willing to dump the pretty popular Celica and let the unproven tC carry their youth market.

With mid-engined MR2 now being killed, tell me the business case for a new Fiero-type vehicle over the Solstice again....

The Spyder isnt surprising and the Celica dying has been on the rumor mill for awhile. Seems the tC is taking its spot and Toyota is going to become the mainstream, bland car selling division while Scion and Lexus take care of the other markets.

The Tc engine is the same as the Celica engine...I think it uses different programing to make better TQ and only 160 HP...

The cams may also be different

I gotta be honest...that tC looks pretty attractive. The other Scion models =
