The plants being closed include Oklahoma City, and the Lansing, Mich., Craft Centre in 2006, and Doraville, Ga., in 2008.

Unless GM is keeping things close to the vest, it won't be Oshawa #2, as that is now scheduled to close when the LaCrosse and Grand Prix products die after the 2008 model year.
Wilmington and Detroit-Hamtramck would seem to be the most under-utilized car plants, and likely candidates for new RWD production. I'm surprised that GM kept 2+ full-size SUV plants (Janesville and Arlington), and 3+ pickup truck plants (Oshawa #3, Pontiac East, Fort Wayne) - Silao, Mexico, used to be primarily SUV's but now also produces pickups.

Re: Breaking news about GM
Can anyone itemize the products that are manufactured at the affected facilities? Viewing the video clip on msnbc Wagoner states that several of these closings coincide with end of product life cycle.
What I was able to decipher... Six assembly sites affected. Total assembly capacity to be brought down to 4.2 million units, this includes the New delta Township site to start in 2006. 5 assembly plants shut down by 2008.
Oklahoma City - early 2006
*GMT360 - Chevrolet Trailblazer XL, GMC Envoy XL
Lansing Craft Centre - mid 2006
*Chevrolet SSR
Spring Hill Line 1 - late 2006
*Saturn Ion - there's a new Opel Astra-based model coming, most likely to be built either at Lordstown, OH (if they can find the capacity) or Lake Orion, MI.
Doraville – 2008
*Minivans - New platform crossovers and minivans to be produced at Delta Township
Oshawa Car Complex
-Plant #1 third shift - second half 2006
*Chevrolet Impala, Chevrolet Monte Carlo
-Plant #2 - 2008
*Buick LaCrosse, Pontiac Grand Prix
Moraine third shift - 2006
*GMT360 - Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier, 9-7
Can someone assist to fill in the blanks above on what product will be affected by the closures noted?

Re: Breaking news about GM
Not to sound bad here, but with GM's current financial state, is this a surprise to anyone? When the business struggles, it usually cuts off fat. Unfort. that means lots of jobs affecting lots of people, which sux big time
Re: Breaking news about GM
OKC - XL versions of Trailblazer and Envoy - these are either dead with the advent of the new full-size SUV's, or will move to Moraine, OH (most likely the former).
LCC - SSR only, say goodbye. There is another plant (Grand River) in Lansing which builds the CTS/STS/SRX, and it's NOT closing. Ditto the new Delta Township plant, which will build the new crossovers and minivans (not open yet).
Spring Hill #1: Saturn Ion - there's a new Opel Astra-based model coming, most likely to be built either at Lordstown, OH (if they can find the capacity) or Lake Orion, MI.
Doraville, GA - those useless minivans. Replacements to be built at Delta Township.
Oshawa #1 - Impala, Monte Carlo
Oshawa #2 - LaCrosse, Grand Prix
Moraine, OH - Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier, 9-7, et. al.
