Is Bob Lutz a friend or foe?
Re: Is Bob Lutz a friend or foe?
This is maybe one of the less useful threads here. We all seem to agree that Lutz is, indeed, a huge friend of the RWD performance car, even a friend of the coupe body style. We all seem to agree that he is the potential savior of GM, if the recent job move doesn't shuttle him aside.
The only point of disagreement here is on his committment to the ponycar. I for one doubt that the Camaro is his favorite platform; I think the GTO is far more to his liking and is demonstrated by his desire to resurrect it, but who the hell knows what he likes???? In case anyone thinks this makes me anti-Camaro (as suggested by a recent post), think again. I've bought 5 new F-bodies; how many have you true believers bought?
I'm for dropping this discussion and moving on to more interesting topics. I think we are all fundamentally in agreement here.

Re: Is Bob Lutz a friend or foe?
Chris, I don't think SCNGENNFTHGEN meant literally that some people don't want to see Camaro come back. I suspect he means that there are some people whose demands would hurt the chances of Camaro coming back.
Camaro sure as hell isn't going to have it's totally own chassis, yet just a few days ago on another thread someone griped that they would never buy a Camaro that's has components from GM's parts bin. On that same thread someone also stated that Camaro should have IRS even if it costs a couple thousand more than a comparable Mustang. Like that's going to fly in the market place.
One can draw a parallel between this site and GM's developing future F-body. GM is hesitating, starting, stopping, changing, and seemingly confused about the development of the 5th gen. If you read this site over a long period of time, and read all the conflicting and often unrealistic posts here, it's almost like the fans of Camaro are as convulted as the process seems to be making the new one.
You don't read stuff like this on Mustang sites.

Absolutely. We could always start another 20 page debate about suspensions.
Re: Is Bob Lutz a friend or foe?
Wow! I was away from my computer for a few days. I come back to find that, I'm wacked out! Dude I already knew that, next time tell me something I don't know.
Anyway thanks GUY you nailed it.
I was not speaking literally, but rather generalizing about the tone of some ppls comments over the time I've been lurking and posting here. I meant that, that was how it seemed to me! Anytime you read something, it is from that persons perspective. I don't think it was so far fetched, but that is just one persons opinion, so take it as such! As far as linking you to ppls names and specific quotes, forget it. I'm computer iliterate
, much better with a wrench, than a PC!
