Best performance per dollar: LSA Z/28 or base Corvette?
#16
People also buying cars in this segment (lets admit it, shall we?) want a bit of "Look at me!" from their car. A base Corvette is still a base model, where a Z28 is the rare-top-trim-ludacris-speed-enhanced Camaro. The most powerful Camaro ever made says something neat to a collector, a gearhead, and a Camaro lover, which most of us happily are. The Camaro looks good on the street, where the Corvette is (in a way) just another Corvette, good looking though it may be.
Bang for the buck, a base Corvette wins though. But I'm assuming we're talking $50k and you want a factory warranty.
Or for 50k, you pick up a used supercharged CTS-V with a few miles on it and still plenty of warranty. Which is what I'd do if I had 50k. Maybe you could pick up a used Z06 for $50k too, but I'd sooner have the CTS-V.

Vette - no contest. Remains the same if the 2011 GT500 is included.
Changes only if you have to have rear seats, or you just really, really like Camaro or Mustang (which is a perfectly understandable reason).

Well, at this point the C6 is "less exclusive" than the Cruze also. Would you rather have a Cruze than a Corvette?
I would definitely go with a base Vette over an LSA Camaro unless I needed the back seats. However, I have ALWAYS favored the Corvette since my Dad had one when I was born. I will eventually own a Corvette, one way or another.

I would take the Z28, then destroy all the base vette owners with my 126 extra ponies. Not to mention the neck snapping that would be going on. Or the HP increase that a small plastic wheel and rubberband could produce.

You plan on going all kung fu on your passengers or something? That's kinda violent sounding...
As for destroying base Vettes, I wouldn't be so sure, at least until the rubberband / plastic wheel swap takes place. I think the two would be pretty close... The Z/28 would enjoy a slight power to weight advantage if it were to come it at 4000-4100 lbs and 556 hp, but the Vette enjoys better weight distribution and better aero properties.

I have to say, got a chance to sit in a Camaro at the auto show, and I really, really like it. That would be a very sweet car to own. I would find the rear seats occasionally useful, but...
Corvette takes preference. It's a sports car.

The reason I haven't yet bought a C6 is because I don't have the money. There is nothing about Corvette that I don't like.
The reason I haven't yet bought an F5 is because I don't like the limited rearward visibility or the tiny trunk opening, and because I don't have the money. I like pretty much everything else about the car (although I won't deny that there is room for improvement in several aspects, none of the rest would have deterred me from buying one).
I assume that Z28 will be the highest-performing Camaro, and that will make it even more interesting. However, I assume that it will retain the poor rearward visibility and the tiny trunk opening, so I still won't buy one even if I get the money.
So, Corvette all the way for me (preferably Grand Sport, or ZR1 if I win the lottery ).
