Well, the Camaro is a four seat Corvette if the G8 is a four door Corvette. That, in a nutshell, is what has turned off some of the faithful to the F5. It's less a four seat than it used to be.
But realize that surveys showed that it was the Corvette-ness that turned off a lot of potential buyers (low to the ground meaning more difficult entry/egress, hump in passenger floor, etc.).
The RX-8, on the other hand, is low to the ground, small and light as possible -- just like a four-seat Corvette -- except for an engine that produces about 40% as much torque. Transplant an LS3 into it, and Voila! (assuming the patient survives

But those things are gutless. My buddy bought one a couple years back. A guy he knew was able to stay right on his heals with a new Civic Si...which is unacceptable. So he traded it in on a brand new LS2 Vette. He got in an accident with that a year later and was able to get into an LS3 Vette and has since done full bolt on's and is looking into a heads/cam package. If you want something fast, the RX8 should be towards the bottom of your list, near the Civic Si.
