No kidding! It'd be like a four seat Corvette.

But would it twist the chassis into a pretzel? Blow up the diff? Would it even fit, with A/C, radiator, cats, etc.?

Well, the Camaro is a four seat Corvette if the G8 is a four door Corvette. That, in a nutshell, is what has turned off some of the faithful to the F5. It's less a four seat than it used to be.

But realize that surveys showed that it was the Corvette-ness that turned off a lot of potential buyers (low to the ground meaning more difficult entry/egress, hump in passenger floor, etc.).

The RX-8, on the other hand, is low to the ground, small and light as possible -- just like a four-seat Corvette -- except for an engine that produces about 40% as much torque. Transplant an LS3 into it, and Voila! (assuming the patient survives )

I'd rather have an FD with an LSx.

True but they are probably getting hard to find in good shape for anything close to a decent price. The FDs' rotary even sounds better than the renisis, so it should be (emotionally) easier to do the RX8 swap.

I chased one in PR country backroads at 2 am once in my SVT Focus.. we were going all out and that thing could power through turns without lifting the gas, I was very impressed.
But those things are gutless. My buddy bought one a couple years back. A guy he knew was able to stay right on his heals with a new Civic Si...which is unacceptable. So he traded it in on a brand new LS2 Vette. He got in an accident with that a year later and was able to get into an LS3 Vette and has since done full bolt on's and is looking into a heads/cam package. If you want something fast, the RX8 should be towards the bottom of your list, near the Civic Si.

Big Negative on the RX-8. It's gutless, and I don't want to have to spend an arm or a leg to give it some guts.

Well, the tradeoff for the Rx-8 being gutless is that its tiny motor gives it some spectacular fuel economy ratings!

Wait...
