Aztek to die in 2005
According to rumors going on. In reality the name will die and Pontiac with a new name of whatever the Rendevous replacement is...likely VUE based (instead of a bastardized minivan platform) . the Rendevous has definatly shown GM there is a market for this kinda vehicle...but after forcasting Aztek sales in around 70,000 the SUV has never topped 25,000 in sales.

There are no concrete plans to produce a Pontiac variant of the Vue as of this moment . The Chevy Equinox is still on task to launch MY04, but as of now no projected volumes have been added for a Pontiac. My plant makes the cooling module (radiator, condenser, fan, etc) for the VUE. The weird thing is, the rep that was in our plant to check everything out was supposedly with CAMI. Maybe the Equinox will be built there???

Can't speak to the rumors, but I can tell you this:
Source - Automotove News (November 11, 2002)
Aztek production has gone up by a factor of nearly 3 from last year through November 1st, and have continually trended upwards since the introduction of the vehicle.
Through November 1st last year, a total of 13,896 Azteks were produced. Through November 1st this year, a total of 33,711 Azteks were produced. Only 23,572 Camaros were produced from January 1st to November 1st 2001, and 23,012 from January 1st 2002 to November 1st 2002.
So, there's the bad news, and a stinging indictment of the Camaro I love so much... ugly or not, the 2002 Aztek is going to outsell the Camaro for calendar 2002, and will also exceed Camaro's 2001 sales numbers.
Aztek sales will exceed 25,000 units this year by a fair margin (at least 8,000 units).
If you combine Rendezvous and Aztek volumes you get roughly 100,000 units this year - which would have been more than enough to keep Camaro and Firebird alive.
Other interesting notes....
GM produced a total of 2,734,242 trucks through November 1st in the US, Canada and Mexico.
Ford produced a total of 2,382,237 trucks through November 1st in the US, Canada and Mexico.
Chevrolet Silverados outsell Toyota Tundras by a factor of 10. That's TEN TIMES.
