GM owns 20% of Fuji heavy industries, Subaru's parent company.

I thought is was 16%, close enough.

Either way, Subarus aren't built on GM platforms and I don't think GM has any say in Subarus cars, if they did then all the new Subarus would be built on GM platforms or use GM engines

at this point its purely an investment. GM has no voice at Fuji. But GM IS licencing/contracting Subaru's platforms.

think of it this way, if you hire a contractor to come in and build you a house, and you pay him for his services, do you OWN him? obviously not. but you might get a better deal if you invested in his company (hint hint)...
