Why is it acceptable for a luxury manufacturer to be using 4 cylinders in their SUV's?
The Sigma stuff I won't touch. They already built award winning cars and SUVs (SRX) on the platform. It's subcomponents look to be the basis for a host of new volume RWD products for North America, including our new Camaro......

Of course, a high torque supercharged 2.5 liter 4-banger (with dual balance shafts!) is probably a better choice than a gutless normally aspirated 2.5 liter V6.
2. I can see why you don't want to touch the Sigma issue. The fact remains that GM doesn't seem to be able to produce a viable BMW X3 competitor on the Sigma platform because of issues of cost and inflexibility. That's why Cadillac's "entry level" SUV is doomed to a cheapo, mainstream FWD based platform.

Supercharged 4cyl's dont usually end up having that much torque or HP. Thats why turbo's are the perferred method of FI for them. Problem with that is it takes time to build boost with a turbo. In heavy vehicles geared like a normal suv or car, that can cause jerky take offs and soft spots in the power band.

I think the post was civilized enough...using Caps Lock isn't mean. Assuming you're on the ganja is just a personal opinion, not an attack
So come on red, answer me

Yeah, in another one right now he's telling me an '04 Comp G can be had for $15k, and that a base '04 GP should sell for around 10-12k. Right...
Owning this guy is getting easier...and easier...and easier...

I used to be annoyed, but i am now enjoying seeing Special Ed Zed being owned. I think we need to tally how often he is owned by members on the board, and after a week (cuz he will be owned quite often in 1 week) someone should get a trophy.

Although it may take time to build boost, factory applications usually are using small turbos that build up the pressure in next to no time. A good example of that is VW and Audi 1.8 and now 2.0 turbo motors. Their maximum torque (100%) is available from 1850 to 5250 or 5500 RPM, and there is virtually no lag.

If its not 100%, its probably pretty damn close. I remember another turbo I4 (Saab I think??) that makes virtually peak torque over almost the same rev range.
