Aston V8 Vantage

I think this is by FAR the best looking most stylish/classy/classic design of modern times. And "by far" I mean second is miles behind. Even the other Astons look over the top compared to the Vantage. There is just absolutely nothing sexier on wheels. I have to look back to the stylish '60s to find anything that could beat this thing.

I don't know why. I love the looks of the V12 Vanquish or the DB9 ahead of it. But I agree with you, Aston Martin has it done when it comes to classy and elegant designs.

Re: Aston V8 Vantage

The new Astons are right up there with my favorite classics, like the '65 Shelby Daytona Coupe and the '63 Splitwindow Corvette... They're simply RIGHT.

Jag, Lexus, BMW, M-B, Cadillac... Take notice. That is how it's done.

Agreed 100%. GM could do alot worse than emulate this for a Chevy or Pontiac Coupe. Muscular and modern.

Interesting tidbit...the designer of the Aston Martin DBS once claimed he was inspired by the '67 Camaro! I'm not sure how accurate the guy was though, both cars debuted roughly at the same time, the Aston came alittle later in the model year, but i'm not sure that was enough time to tweak the design.....but it's interesting anyway. This story was in an older copy of the british mag Classic and Sports car, they compared the two and they do look alot alike,so maybe the Aston guy knew of the coming F-body long before it showed up,just like that bangle butt showed up on a bunch of Japanese cars almost instantly after the 7-series debuted.
It's interesting to read about car design and how nothing is really purely American or British or whatever, they've all been inspired by each other at one time or another. Rolls Royce took from Cadillac almost 80-90 years ago and every BMW since the '60s has that Chevy Corvair line around the top of the body, under the windows,etc.,etc....

Interesting... well if the new Camaro is to have any retro cues I hope they take the bulk from the four-eyed '67. It's just such a clean flowing design front to back. I don't know which of the 3 years of 1st gen are the most saught after on the collector's circuit, but if I had the money to get one it would be the '67. The other two just somehow fall short to me.

It's definately a nice car but it's not close to being one of the best designs in modern times. It's very plain. I love that grill though!

have you seen a recent rerrari? functional? yes. fast? hell ya. classic? not even close. Look at the 60's Ferraris. Even the over-the-top 80s Ferraris like Testarossa are better designs. Today's Lambos do look superior to any of the older ones, but they still don't come close. Corvette is definitely a great car and looks the part, but you can't put it up to the new Vantage design wise. the Lotus Esprit is to me highly over-rated in every respect.

besides when I said name another I meant name ONE car. the fact that you named a bunch because they're exclusive GTs so as not to pick one out, just makes my point.

Re: Aston V8 Vantage

Ya... Ferrari has abandoned styling in favor of sheer functionality, which I have no problem with. They're gorgeous in their own right. However, they're not beautiful like an Aston, or a 60s Ferrari.

I had always thought the same thing on those early V8 Astons, but wasn't certain how it had worked out that way. They do look very similar. Especially the model with the fender flares and four round headlights.

None of those cars really ooze timeless style to me. Atleast the way Aston's do. The Astons also carry with them a look of simplistic elegence and high-class and not too over the top like most supercars. Almost gentleman like. It manages to have tons of curves without looking chicky or femme because it has the muscular lines and bulges in all the right areas imo. To me, the cars you mentioned while great lookers (all of them), they just don't match upto the Astons sheer style imo. But that's just me.

The Astons just have something about them that seperates them from every other exotic/supercar out there in the style department.
