At the moment, though, SVT is stuck in neutral. The end of the 2004 model year marked the beginning of a two-year hiatus for SVT-brand Ford vehicles.
Production of the next-generation F-150 SVT Lightning pickup will be postponed until after the debut in 2006 of the 2007 SVT Mustang Cobra. And the 2004 model is the last for the SVT Focus, which garnered acclaim for its spunk and handling.
Longtime fans of the SVT vehicles are concerned about the direction of the line.
"Lightning owners are very disappointed," said Brian Shafranek, 42, of Pittsburgh, who owns a 2003 SVT Mustang Cobra. "I would like to see the brand expanded."
With SVT in for a prolonged pit stop, the competition is expanding their high-performance offering.
The Street and Racing Technology, or SRT, division of DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group is launching its eighth product in February with the debut of the Chrysler 300 SRT-8.
And General Motors Corp. is rolling out a pair of Saturn vehicles under its Red Line brand, while Cadillac and Chevrolet plan to market more high-performance models.

Saved the photo to hard disk and played in a photo editor...
Under the seats up on the rack, there appears to be several new console and dash components. There is some upholstery changes there too.
If I were a betting man (and I am!
), I'd say they were standing in a bay for Team Mustang in Dearborn, and you are looking at a few GT's that are being converted to Mach 1's for development/fitment of production parts and maybe a little testing too. I say Mach 1 over Boss 302 at this point because I know of a few snafus with the Boss nameplate right now.
As for the scoop, guionM was right a few days ago... you can look under the hood and see that the hood and framework were designed from the beginning for scoops - functional and non-funtional both. It is an open door to aftermarket companies, and also a design savings for the factory-backed tuners like Steeda, Roush, and Saleen - not to mention SVT in-house.
SOMETHING with a hood scoop will be seen in January at NAIAS... I'd bet on it.

Actually, I was the one that mentioned it on this site over a week ago I think. It's one of the Cobra mules. I thought it was a Mach 1 at first, but it's been confirmed to be a Cobra mule. 5.4L S/C producing just over 400 hp at the wheels. The hoodscoop is there to help clear the S/C.
Good news is there are some Mach 1 mules as well running the 5.4L in N/A form. No hoodscoop needed for those

You could bet your man hood that it is a Cobra Mule.
I am shocked noone pointed out the DOHC engine in the background.
The scoop is easy to trick people in thinking it is a MACH1, But thats the point is'nt it...Wolf in sheeps clothing.
Proud Pony. I have yet to see that there will be ANY interior changes as of now. Other then seating and a few minor tweaks that are normal for SVT.
