Not everyone wants to spend $600+ a month for 5 years on a new car but it appears that if you want to get a decent fast RWD car (not a truck) that looks good your going to have to.

I don't see how they sell the cars they do. Is there that many people making that good money? I can't afford a $30,000 car. I would have to seriously look at my budget to afford a $25,000 car. When the 5th gen comes out, I'll probably have to wait a year or two and get a used one. That's why I wish they would hurry up!

Amen.

Where I live you can't buy a decent house for under $300K, like anyone can afford a $600 a month finance on a new car on top of thier $2,000 a month mortgage My truck is the last new vehicle I'm ever buying, after this I'm only buying used and never spending more than $10k.

GM has indicated many times that they intend to go for more 'upscale' markets because they believe that's where the money is at. I guess for now they still have Saturn for slightly lower class, plus econocars in other divisions like Cavalier, etc. It's sad. I remember when you didn't have to worry about what *type* of car you wanted, because they existed for all budget levels. Now the only affordable cars are smily-faced bubble pods. If you want anything even remorety stylish or functional you have to break out the mega bucks. Where did this massive rift come from?

I guess the low end 350Z comes in under $30k, as well as the Mustang GT. But you're right, rwd + performance seems to be a well-to-do, luxurious option now. Maybe after a few years, products will trickle back down the majority who seem to be the most enthusiastic about it. (Trickle down performance?? lol )

The Mustang GT's seem to be priced will, $24K gets you a decent amount of options. I just wish the HP was closer to 300. Has any one looked at a 350Z yet, I know they start at about $28K but I have a feelling that they all have at least $3K worth of options on them like the Z28's. Z28's started at $23K but I never saw one on a dealer lot that cost less than $26K. I would never consider a 350Z because they don't have a back seat, I like the Infinity version that has a back seat, but at the dealer by where I live they all sticker for about $34K

No sh*t, when did they all get so ugly? But at least now they are offering some high performance bubble pods, and thanks to gen Y, we'll get some really FUNKY bubble pods in the near future.

THANK YOU!...

I haven't posted on this site in who knows how long but I just couldn't resist this one!...It was less than ten years ago I remember browsing the local Chevy dealer lot and wondering why get a V-6 Camaro when the big Z was just a couple thousand more at around $19K-$20K!!...Damn, now even four cylinder Cavaliers, Sunfires and Civics are pushing that price!...Yeah the cars are getting a little nicer from the factory but it's not like they last any longer than cars ten, fifteen or twenty years ago!!...I LOVE sports cars and day dream almost every day how nice it would be to have a nice Camaro or Vette to cruise in during the summer time...Maybe in a few more years, maybe if I save a little more I can turn the key and hear a nice V8 rumble to life!! But now I'm thinking it's just not worth it...The high performance sports cars have monthly payments almost as high as a house payment! And by the time I DO save a little more they'll cost EVEN MORE!!...*LOL* And I'm well aware that some cheaper 4-bangers and V6 sports cars do have performance almost like those V8's of twenty years ago but they just don't have the looks or feel of a sleek sports car like most of us on this board want...I too wonder how in the world they are selling all these 25K+ cars!...But ah well...Maybe I'll give in and just look for a nice used one...Perferably c6 Vette or FIFTH gen F-bod!...F5, it just gives ya goose bumps huh???...Hehehehe...Just thought I'd vent along with you guys!...Later!...

The more expensive car prices are offset by leases, which is why leasing has become much more popular.

That's how people can afford the cars, usually.

Hell, you can lease a Jag for $349/mo

Here in Southern California (orange County) you cant but a decent house for under $400,000.

I agree that most people are leasing cars that cost more than $30,000+ and buying those cars under $30,000.

I do think that the recent 0% financing has gotten alot more people to buy instead of lease because it such a fantastic deal.

I agree, also for anyone else living in N.J. the insurance on a $30,000 car would likely be $3000 a year! I also never got the feeling that 4th gens didn't sell well, cause where I live they are everywhere. Must be alot loaded people around here. No shortage of SS's around my neck of the woods. When my 94Z was new I was dreaming of owning one, thank god for depreciation

Oh, and also IMO this is mostly what drives the younger buyers to imports.

i think 90 percent of cars for sale in north america are a stupid amount of money to pay for a car
hear in BC you can put a new car loan over 7 years that is getting pretty stupid
people are going to be tasking out morgages on cars soon
no wonder some many people live off credit you have to it sucks
you should be able to get cars like the camaro for like 20000 max SS and all i hate the prices of cars nowadays
