Any news on the Mazda front?

Other than their new SUV I could swear that it's about time for an RX-8 refresh.

Anyone else?

RX-8 could use a new engine. 265HP 3.5L V6 or the Turbo 2.3L would be great in that car. The current engine is a dog and a gas pig.

Mazda's whole design language is supposed to get a makeover (NA design is now run by Pontiac Solstice designer Franz von Holzhausen). The Nagare concept will provide a preview and is debuting at the LA Auto Show (photos below).

Some comments from AutoWeek:

Mazda will inject nature into its edgy style with the Nagare concept that debuts at the Los Angeles auto show. Mazda Global Design director Laurens van den Acker says one word sums up the future of Mazda design: Flow. What’s that mean? Mazda design will be inspired by natural elements that capture motion, energy and lightness, says Franz von Holzhausen, head of Mazda North American design, who led the Nagare team at Mazda’s Irvine, California, studio.
Personally, I don't find the new styling all that different from the current RX-8 and recent Kabura concept.

RX-8 is a piece of garbage. torqueless wonder. When was working as a Mazda tech, there were always at least 3 or 4 of those things in the shop with engine problems.

The "RX" line have ALWAYS been rotary engine cars. Mazda might replace the RX-8 with something similar, but I'm guessing they'll stick to their heritage with the name.

The turbo 2.3L would be a great choice for the replacement. Maybe they'd call it the MX-6?

Was the Kabura just for kicks, or is their potential for it to go to production?

Didn't they have a three or four rotor engine in a JDM towards the late 90s? How hard would it be to do something like that with the RENESIS for the US?

Yeah, I think the last JDM RX-7 had a three-rotor turbo.

Shouldn't be "hard", per se... just needs to be room in the engine bay.
