Diesel Colorado?

Any chance the Colorado will get a Diesel? I'd like to see it happen, it would also help the GM truck CAFE avg.

Platform mate Isuzu D-max has 2 diesels.

The 3.0-liter 4 cyl puts out 120hp / 180 ft-lbs, I'm sure GM could tweak it and get more power out of it.

I was reading this article and noticed they said "A Toyota RAV4 gets about 24 miles per gallon in the USA powered by gasoline. Running on diesel in Europe, it gets 39 mpg. A gas-fed six-cylinder BMW X5 gets about 18 mpg, but its European diesel cousin gets 29 mpg. "

It would be great to have a 4x4 Crew Cab Colorado that gets 30mpg+ here in the states. This would also give Chevy an another edge over the competition and make tree huggers happy too. Not to mention diesel engines have no problem going 500,000mi+. Seems like a win-win situation.

Actually I count 3 Diesels available . Not only that but all are direct injection and also does anyone else see the DOHC DI v6 in there. Hmm an I5 can fit length wise and a DOHC V6 can fit width wise, "Whats that spell?" I think I can see a LS1 fitting under the hood very well!

U.S. emission standards are a big problem for diesels. Europe has easier standards for diesels and fuel with less sulfur.

In 2007, low sulfur fuel will be mandated here, but it will still be very difficult.

Until 2009, you could see diesels in non-California-emissions state, as there are easier emission tiers available in those 45 states.

However, manufacturers are not likely to spend a lot of money to develop a diesel that can only be sold in 45 states (not CA, NY, MA, VT, ME) for a few years.

So, you're unlikely to see a Colorado diesel until technology develops and manufacturers can feel safe that they won't be outlawed before the investment is repaid.

Note that the few diesels available now or shortly are only in 45 states and are already available in other markets. So the cost of bringing them in is relatively low.

One final problem with diesels is that the manufacturers have to meet a fleet average level. Since the emissions of diesels are quite high, manufacturers have to sell a lot of cars that beat the average for each diesel sold.

Prior to 2004, when you could still buy a diesel in California, you'd have to sell about six ULEVs to offset the emissions of one diesel. So the cost of the six ULEVs above the cost of a LEV also has to be figured into how much it costs to bring the diesel to market.

If you want a diesel write your congressman (or state legislator if you live in CA, MA, NY, VT, or ME).

I have found turbo-diesels to be kinda fun to drive, thats too bad--although the cost of a diesel in the Colorado would make it quite exspensive.

Forget the Isuzu diesels though......a 3.5L DOHC 5 cly turbo diesel could really put out some great numbers.

Where in the world would it come from?

Hmm......maybe GM Powertrain ? I mean its not impossible--they have the motor and have even built turbo versions.
I would imagine that using heavy duty componenets it would be possible to make it a diesel.

I was just thinking that since the Altlas motor is pretty high tech that it could make some wicked torque in a turbo-diesel application.

I really want diesels to start making a hit here..........VW has 100% of the market share for smaller vehicles that a diesel.

I'm personally excited about the possible release of the 315Hp 575 ft/lb Toureg 5.0L V10 DOHC Twin Turbo.

Yeah that toureg diesel is gonna be AWESOME.
If the big three didnt up their diesel truck's power recently the toureg would have had the most powerful diesel, they've got the Powerstroker in torque though -
