Another Ford bites the dust.

Ford GT to cease at 4,038 cars
DETROIT -- When Ford Motor Co. ends production of the 505-hp GT on Sept. 21, the total production figure of the $150,000 two-seater will be 4,038.

The Shelby Mustang GT 500 takes over as Ford's performance flagship.
I may like the GT500, but to say it takes over from the Ford GT as performance flagship (to be honest) is pretty pittiful.

LOL. The GT500 doesn't impress me much, but it is quite a bit quicker than a 2002 SS.

Unless, of course, you go out and find the absolute quickest 2002 SS ET and the slowest GT500 ET.

4038 sales for the GT? There must be many wealthy hardcore 'Ford fans' in the US!!! Me, I'd rather have a Z06 but that's another story.

What's the reason for ending production, Ford's financial troubles? If so, could GT be reincarnated later on, possibly with the new Ford V8?

they said it was one of those living legends vehicles..and tried tying in the demise of the Thunderbird..as a short term vehicle..and saying the GT was also in that catagory as a short term vehicle..and the Shelby Cobra was supposed to be the next vehicle not the GT500??

I think this is the only vehicle that might actually had been schedualed for a finite number of years. What else could you have done with the car? It is the spitting image of the original. They could have produced that Shelby concept but you couldn't really connect the two cars together. The Thunderbird definatly did not fall into this catagory.

Does anyone know if the GT was a short-life vehicle only?

Re: Another Ford bites the dust.

That's really a shame. The GT was a beautiful car. I would've been proud to have it in my garage. I grow tired of hearing the,"Oh, I would get a Z06" crowd whenever the GT is mentioned.

Yeah...great...get a Corvette like everyone else in town has. I'm a fan of performance, but I promise you a GT would be snapping necks from people taking notice far more than another Corvette with some different badging. 550 supercharged horsepower hauling around a 2500-lb frame. Do you realize how sick of a power-to-weight ratio that is? And how much sicker it would get if you started messing with boost or other mods?

Now let's see. I can either have this:

Or this:

Some of you need to accept that the GT is in a different class. It is an exotic. The Corvette is a sports car. Bragging about how the Z06 will beat an exotic for the price doesn't make a Ferrari any less Ferrari or a Ford GT any less of a GT. They're in a different class of workmanship and design. I wish more of you would recognize that. This is going to be the loss of a really great car to be replaced by some heavy-*** boat anchor that barely looks any different than the 5 million other Mustang GT's on the road.

Im pretty sure they said it was going to be a small run from the beggining. There was talk of the Cobra roadster replacing it but that got axed pretty quick.

What are those metal holes in the GT's seats?

Like the SSR, the GT was only intended to have a short production run from the start.

Re: Another Ford bites the dust.

Are they planning on replacing it with the Shelby car that has been seen around? same proportions on the Shelby car, just a little different. GR-1 or something like that?

Re: Another Ford bites the dust.

Well that was seemingly never more than talk anyway.

Add to that SVT has essentially been dissolved and its looking like the answer is no.

This comparison test lists the GT at 3468 pounds, which helps to explain the negligable difference in performance compared to the Z06.

Your point is still valid. The GT was meant from the beginning as a ultra low-volume, short production run car. It was a statement vehicle for FMC more than anything.
