The problem is, that fact is correct when they are charged at night. A Tesla roadster takes a 70A@220V charge when it makes its 6 hour recharge. You get vehicles to charge like that during the day and there'll be problems.

Buffalo is right next to Niagara Falls - and we have brown outs here. I know people that loose power pretty regularly for at least an hour or two every couple weeks. The grid is in really poor shape when you look at it nationwide.

This guy is just saying this cause he wants to pull the blame off the electric companies.

However, knowing that manufacturer's don't have the ability to produce tens of millions of these things, the grid will be just as bad as it currently is.

They are probably referring to vehicles like the plug in Escape and not true EV's like the Tesla. Plugging in your Escape will be like leaving the toaster on all night.

Is it that bad? I live just outside of the city, and I haven't lost power in almost a year now.

And is that because of the actual supply of power (and the 'core' of the grid), as I thought American Electric was referring to, or just poorly maintained distribution lines around here...

^That's going to increase anyway. Our demand went down, price still went up.

Now, we're going to start screwing with the electric grid too

Its a bit of both depending on where you live. UB's chilled water plant on North Campus has had some concerns with power delivery for their largest compressors for several years now, and with UB's 2020 plan they're even more concerned that campus could get the power it needs to function on a daily basis.

I know quite a few people back in the Albany area that have similar issues (or worse) with power loss. That has to do with local distribution, but still...

There was a good reason the NY Corridor was proposed...

In Albany your power service depends on how rich your town is. Power never goes out where the money is.

QFT. And the school districts around there are the prime example of it.

I am *so* glad I don't live in "the suburban council" anymore.
