Alfa won't be here for more than a couple of years.

 

A 1.8L engine with just north of 200 HP can be tremendous fun in a car weighing around 2,000 lbs. You can have a level of agility and handling simply not attainable in a 3,000-4,000 lb car, and you don't have to be going 100 mph to enjoy that agility.

 

Perhaps, but give me a 3100 lb C6 Z06 and I am much happier. And I don't know of any production cars that weigh 2000 lbs that are anywhere close to affordable.

 

Smart ForTwo Coupe = 1800 lb., $12.5k
Scion IQ = 1900 lb., $16k

Light weight isn't expensive, it's cheap!

But unfortunately not in the case of the carbon fiber Alfa...

 

I meant to imply that significant power is available as well. Those cars you just mentioned can't even move out of their own way. Once you add horsepower to a lightweight chassis, things start to add up. Drop an LS1 in a Smart Car and the torque would rip it in half after one rev .

 

Golf Carts don't count as cars.
