Talking after 35 years... a Shelby Mustang return?

You guys may remeber my comments about Shelby and Ford getting back together...
Ther may be good things coming!

A dab of History for those "youngsters" who may not know of Shelby's hay-day...
Bill Ford's father (Henry Ford II) was the guy who became pals with Carroll Shelby and financed the whole Shelby Mustang marriage back in '64. It was a program to spur the sales of the peppy little car, and it worked like a dream for several years. As Bunkie Knudsen made the cars resemble barges, the performance levels were getting harder to acheive, and then the gas crunch came in... in '70, Shelby and Ford parted ways. Henry II stepped down, and corporate relationships were lost. Later, Shelby sued Ford over the use of the GT350 and GT500 monikers on their celebratory 20th anniversary '84 models, and won. And for years, Shelby and Ford were on bad terms to say the least. Well, it seems they are patching things up rather well... (I guess Shelby remembers Junior's dad and feels better dealing with him instead of Petersen or Nasser?) They joined forces in litigating over Factory Five Racing's use of the "Cobra" name and body style(and both won). They started beating ideas up over Eleanor after the "60 Seconds" movie... They struck a deal to co-supply the NEW Cobra CSX4000 roadsters...
AND NOW THE GOOD STUFF!

Carroll Shelby is sitting on the steering committe of the new GT! I have this on FAIRLY good authority. He is being sought after for input on design, and expertise in limited quantity, specialty car production (I wonder why? ).

I have strong RUMOR that there may be a "Shelby" concept vehicle sporting a new hi-po Ford "race-oriented" engine by year end.
:drops to floor and says little prayer for 5.0-3V or even new 427:

And in an effort to buck-up general interest in the '05 closer to production date, there is rumor of a new Shelby Mustang GT350H! Recall the '66 GT350H "Hertz" car - it was actually available for rent to Hertz gold card members back in '66 for $17/day!
The program was stopped because the company caught too many people actually renting them, going to open track events and RACING them in competition, then returning the cars on Monday! Hence it's nickname "Rent-A-Racer".

Well, HERE are two PHOTOSHOP CONCEPTS with some unconfirmed statements from and "insider"(?) I have not confirmed anything myself yet, but this is the first I've seen of anything "written" on the net. Take it FWIW, no more.

I also found the creator of those couple of awesome Boss 302 photoshops we all saw last week. He has some additional work up now. This guy did the grey photoshop with the "skinny" rear taillamps we saw last week too, he's pretty good IMO. On the '05, he has now done Mach 1 stripes, '69 Boss 302 stripes, '70 Boss 302 stripes, Bullitt, and an AWESOME black-on-black car.
Go HERE for additional eye candy.
Quite frankly, if ANY of his renditions go to production, I'll be buying.

Listen carefully, hear that sound? It's the SUCKING SOUND of my retirement account starting to go dry...

I'm trying to dig something up on the second 427 engine that Ford built... we know one went into the concept car seen at NAIAS. but w h e r e is the other one, and why did they build t w o?

I'll post again if I get any confirms or new stuff.

Proud

Keep us up to date ProudP!

Let me add my Mustang tidbits too.
After gathering all the rumors, announcements, and cranking up my crystal ball...I have a prediction on the Mustang GT motor.

What clinched it was a quote by Philip Martens , Ford VP, in C&D magazine on the GT motor.

"What you're going to see is an engine you've seen before, but maybe in a different Ford product. And I guarantee you will not be disappointed with the standard V8"

I predict that a version of the F150's, 300hp, 3 valve, 5.4...will be the Mustang GT motor.

I'd say, not bad for a base motor.

Personally I'd rather see Carroll spend his time working on the OX2 engine.

Let's see it in a car like you promised Carroll!

I do have some more good info on the BOSS motor. It looks like Ford very well may import the super-tuned 5.0/5.4 BOSS engine design that Ford of Oz has developed for their Falcon XR8 program!

Here's some quote from the letter itself...
US interest in the Boss family was confirmed to GoAuto by Philip Martens, Ford Motor Company vice-president, vehicle programs and processes, and North American product development.

His enthusiasm is particularly significant for Ford Australia because his responsibilities include improving the Ford North America product creation process, including program management, commonality, quality, cost, speed, vehicle evaluation and verification.

He confirmed a pre-Christmas meeting in Dearborn with Ford Australia product development vice-president Trevor Worthington at which the Boss engine was discussed.

"Trevor came to see me, to see if we could close-couple the working relationship between the two (Ford Motor Company and Ford Australia) – and the best way to do that is to have a common product program to share what you're working on," Mr Martens said.

"Given all the things that they have done with the Falcon, the easiest way forward is for us to share an engine, and that's what they could do. But we don't have any plans written down specifically yet."

Mr. Martens praised the work done in Australia developing Boss, arguing that remoteness from headquarters in North America had actually aided the process.

"They (Ford Australia) are best being left alone to find creative solutions driven by market need. They're going to get more out of that than throwing it (5.4-litre four-valve engine development) into the big Ford system here," he said.

This is the same engine that ude-lose and I discussed last fall that could facilitate Tickford bringing back the Stage III GTHO down under.
:says prayer, needs Oz vacation in year or two :
This is also what is fuelling my desires for the Boss 302! A true 5.0-3V sitting inside one of those '05 Boss renderings in my first post would
ROCK MY WORLD!

I also got a very good lead on the next V6 engine destined for Mustang tonight...

Supposedly there is already a "developed and being tested" 3.5L 250Hp all aluminium engine slated to be available in the second year of production of the new Mustang. The new "Cyclone V6" is supposed to debut in calendar year 2004. Eventually it will replace Ford's current 3.8L, 4.0L, and 4.2L V6 engines. The all-aluminum construction should help weight AND handling profoundly! 250hp and 200lbs of weightlos... hmmm...

Interesting note towards our other threads on engine-ops for the 5th gen, huh?

I just got tired of the same ol' bash and trash stuff we've been mauling for a week or more now. Went looking for something new.
Thanks for putting up with me!
I'm having a ball tracing leads tonight...

It IS NOT the new '67... the '67 taillights wer CONCAVE, these are FLAT!
It's that new '66 Mustang...
Um no, make that the new '69 Shelby, with that flat rear panel...
Er-uh no, make that the '70 model...
No I take that back, make it a '73, the honeycomb grill is dead-on '73...
Or it could be the '76 Cobra II I'm thinking, with the stretched three-section taillights...
Nah, it's definitely the "new" old '84 SVO with edgier lines and 4Wdiscs...
But the hood scoop is wrong there, so it must be the new '99 model...
The sides scoops and roofline match the '02, so maybe its the "new" '02 model...

AWWW HECK, I get soooo confused trying to pick which model they zeroxed... there's just soo many little details that don't fit...
You know what I mean?

awww mannn, I'm still falling after that one.

You know what's funny...
After all the bickering back and forth about "retro" this and "modern" that and "heritage" the other, not a SINGLE comment in this thread about how Ford might tarnish the image of the old Shelbys or how the owners of the originals might not approve of this modern version. (You know, a' la the GTO episodes.) After all the views this thread got, and only 12 posts - NOT 1 REAL COMPLAINT. (IZ28 - the '67 thing doesn't count as a "negative" IMO! )

Dayum, doesn't that say something!

Well let's see, what do you know about the "new" Shelby's? Huh? Nothing! So how can you say anything positive or negative on just speculation and people's imagination? I think that is kinda funny......................
