Just HOW do you drive that fine RWD machine in the snow with those performance tires, HOW, tell me? What is the secret?

Re: 997 T

The secret is that it is awd, not rwd.

As for the new 911 Turbo: I'm more of a Z06/Viper kinda guy.

I don't think the turbo porsche is AWD. That's Carrera4. If I'm not mistaken, turbos are just RWD.

You are mistaken. The Carrera 4 is also AWD, but only naturally aspirated. The 911 Turbo has been AWD-only for a while now. To get the Turbo engine and RWD, you had to jump up to the 911 GT2, which had even more power (~47x, I think) and was RWD. It also cost something like $50k more than a standard (awd) 911 Turbo, like $120k vs. $170k for the GT2 (pulling numbers from distant memory). Check out Porsche's website if you don't trust me.

I like that Porsche a lot. Are there any specs out yet about the upgrades over the previous generation Turbo car?

Upgrades? Not enough to take down the Z06, I'm guessing.

Some are hoping for around 500 hp, but Autoweek is saying to expect more like 450-460, since Porsche tends to do more incremental power increases. If they go the 460 hp route, I'd expect a higher priced, special model later that offers more (like 500 or so). Kinda like what they did with the previous Turbo and GT2 models. I'm sure it will have the requisite bigger/stickier wheels and tires, plus the carbon-ceramic brakes, a nice interior, etc. etc. At least it better, since you practically have to sell a ******** to buy the damn thing.

Re: 997 T

There were a fleet of about 6 or 8 "primer black" Porsches running around the Bay area with a Cheyenne the middle of last month. I ran into them once up at "Two Rock" (farm country outside of Petaluma) and again a few days later winding through the streets of San Francisco.

To me one Porsche looks like another, but these had bigger mouths (bumper intakes), black rims, and were obviously test cars. I didn't take any pictures, though both times I had a camera and plenty of opportunity.

I think these cars were them.

The Turbo has been 4wd since the 993 series. Can't wait to see the official specs on it. What I'm really waiting for is to see of they do an RS of this new 911. That one is the real drivers car

Re: 997 T

An AWD car still sucks to drive in the snow when there are performance tires on it. Probably has some kind of all season or winter performance tire on it.

Are there any official specs for this car anywhere yet?
