6.2 Hemi/Barracuda update
This is the latest info from Allpar 6/18
Last year, Allpar posted news of the upcoming supercharged 6.2 Hemi engine; this news was later repeated by other sources. Allpar member “Mopar392″ wrote that the engine is apparently now listed in Chrysler’s internal database, as a supercharged engine with MDS (cylinder shutoff), destined for the LX family: LA, LC, LD, and LX. LC is the current Challenger, LX is 300, and LD is Charger. LA is the Challenger or Challenger replacement, which might be the much-rumored Barracuda (a story also reported early by Allpar sources).
“Mopar392″ also wrote that the 8-speed transmission (8HP70) is scheduled to make its way into all of the Hemi models on 2014 model-year vehicles — not a surprising relevation, since the Kokomo plant will, by then, have ramped up to full speed. The 6.2 is said to run around 500-550 horsepower (the 6.4 is currently peaking at around 475 hp), and once it’s out, a Mopar supercharger for the 392/6.4 is rumored.
Sources have previously said that the large car family’s replacements are due to start arriving in model-year 2015, led by the Barracuda or next-generation Challenger, with Charger following in 2016, but the actual dates are unclear. Complicating speculation is the imminent arrival of an Alfa Romeo on Chrysler’s large car platform — the current one, a future one, or a flex-manufacturing-compatible mix of the two is unknown. The goal is reportedly to have a single, versatile platform for large cars (front and rear wheel drive), minivans, crossovers, and possibly a “capable” SUV.

Been a lot of speculation on this LX based Alfa that starts production by the end of this year. Not to deflate the bubble, but it's going to to be a lightly restyled the Dodge Charger. Fiat is blending Alfa and Dodge like they have combined Lancia and Chrysler (rebadged Chryslers have been sold under the Lancer name in Europe for over a year). In short, expect a new nose and badges, and not too much more.
The dates seem to be mostly off a bit. Replacement 300s and Chargers won't be here for 2015MY (we're in 2013MY right now, and there's quite a few vehicles in Chrysler's pipeline due out before the LX sedan replacements).
Challenger will be sold for at least 2 more seasons, possibly more if an MCE is done (which would overlap the Challenger with the car we know as the upcoming "Barracuda"). Charger and 300 are pretty solid for another 3, with replacements coming no earlier than the 2016MY.
The Challenger "replacement" that's being done will also be shared with Alfa.
There is no next generation Challenger. An MCE maybe, but there's currently no program that's working on a new "Challenger".
Next big car news at Chrysler (outside blown SRTs) are replacements for the Avenger and 200 (one most likely RWD sedan that places between Dart and Charger), a new Dodge minivan, a new Chrysler crossover replacing the T&C, and a smaller-than-Dart subcompact, then the forementioned RWD sports coupe.
After all that, then we get to the LX replacements.
Most likely for the 2016-2017MY.

Re: 6.2 Hemi/Barracuda update
8 speed transmissions are a certainty across Chrysler's RWD line. That plus cylinder deactivation, plus direct injection, plus engine cut off at idle is pretty much their arsenal for keeping high powered Hemis in regular mass produced vehicles (Mustangs, Corvettes, CTSv & Camaros are the only American cars outside of Chrysler lineup that carry V8s, and all those are relatively low volume and have relatively low impact on each respective company's CAFE numbers..... compared to Chargers and 300s that are widely available, and comparitively high volume)
Any V8 available in an SRT LX is almost certain be available in an SRT Jeep.
