The chance of this happening is zero, zilch, nada. Not gonna happen anywhere, anytime, anyhow.

Thank goodness....

If Camaro was going to become FWD, it probally would have done so by now. Around '98 GM decided to kill it off completely. The only good thing was it got to stick around a few years longer than planned.

Impala and Monte Carlo are from a different era at GM. Both are actually good cars, it's just that they're FWD, which reflects what GM's priorities were till the past year or so. But things are changing, it's just that it takes awhile for things to work through the pipeline.

We definately know we will be getting a RWD chassis in 2005CY, and most certainly will have some type of US made performance RWD cars in 2006. Sometimes the best way to see something is by not looking directly at it.

GM has a new V8 engine plant comming on line in a couple of years. The press release stated that it would be for RWD cars as well as pickups. Another press release announced another plant destined to build transmissions for RWD cars in 2005, and high performance cars in 2006 (meaning 2006 & 2007 model years). I myself was told (and posted some of it here) about a year ago and again not too long ago, that Pontiac & Chevrolet were working on RWD sedans, but the press releases regarding plants pretty much plays into that.

As far as an import look, I'm not sure what you mean by that, but GM's "product czar" has pretty much loosened things up at design, and that department isn't "focus grouped" to death on their designs anymore. It's safe to say there will be good designs comming out. That doesn't mean you or I may like everything that comes out, but that's the sign of a good daring design team.

I bitch & complain about GM often, but that's more the result of GM's past which we still have to live with for a couple more years, and alot of people wanting RWD performance won't be waiting (can't blame them, what has GM directly announced?) . There is apparently a whole lot of good stuff in the pipeline, some to be on display this year at Detroit. Late to the party, but at least they'll have the right gifts.

Camaro is the small bean in this pot, so it isn't as important as the other cars. But the good thing is that it's in the back of everyone's mind at Chevy and with Mr Lutz. Once everything else is in place, I'd expect to finally see it return. Not before.
