Geesh! Let's see here, using the slight cosmetic and/or engine change means a new generation logic...
1967: original Camaro
1968: vent window delete
1969: New fender ribs, gills, different nose & tail, lights, interior.
1970: New body style
1973: Goodbye Big Block, goodbye "SS"
1974: New huge chrome safety bumpers
1975: Goodbye Z/28
1977: Z28 Returns mid-year
1978: New plastic safety bumpers and ground effects
1980: New hood scoop (for Z28 only)
1982: New body style
1983: 350 cid no longer available
1985: IROC-Z arrives
1986: 350 cid returns in IROC-Z!
1987: the drop-top returns, 350 cid leaves again
1991: 350 cid returns, IROC-Z goes
1993: New body style
1996: "SS" Returns
1998: LS1 and nose update
By golly if we follow that logic, then we should be on talking about the 20th Generation Camaro!

Re: 5th Gen ?
If we're really getting picky, the 350 dropped out around 1980 or so. Wasn't available again until the '87 model I believe, but I seem to recall it was introduced while still in the '86MY, I'm probably wrong though. Was indeed A4 only....and no t-tops either as I recall.
Re: 5th Gen ?
Well the body is a bit different, headlights mostly, and there is a different engine. So to those that aren't familiar with "platforms" i can see the confusion. Think of it like this, the f-body got a new engine, and a new body. so to alot of people it can be seen as a different car. I mean, what really counts as a generation change. new frame? new everything?
