Re: 5 gen to be made in korea?

They build the 5th Gen in Korea, GM can kiss my *** about buying another product again. I've put up with a lot of false hopes, bs quality issues on some vehicles, and I've stuck with them hoping for big things from my favorite car company.

I've dealt with the death of my favorite car of all time from any car company and I've dealt with the big gaping hole caused by it. I was able to deal with a Aussie GTO because I like Holden.

However, I do understand that some parts are already outsourced on every vehicle from every company, but if GM starts going to major lengths to start building everything in china and elswhere, Im dumping them.

Outsourcing is already a big problem, no need to put more hard workers out of a job so a Communist country like China can force slave labor and earn more money to build weapons to eventually kill us. On top of that, slave labor produces shoddy quality.

I dont have a problem with building cars or parts in foreign countries that are respectable and dont force communism or dictatorships upon their people. I also dont mind as long as the major stuff is still produced here. But to start shifting it all overseas is a death knoll once more for an already ailing US manufacturing sector.

No thanks.

I already won't buy an Equinox/Torrent until it has a U.S. made engine under the hood. Outsourcing is going to continue to wreck the economy if something doesn't stop it. I can deal with maybe certain parts being overseas, but things like engines? No way, GM.

I highly doubt a 5th gen will be built in Korea or China though. I am reasonably confident GM will continue to keep auto production in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. But this Chinese engine thing already has me pissed off. My dad was so mad he bought another TrailBlazer...in reality, the Equinox would have been a better fit for him.

No Chinese or Korean Camaro for me either. I've actually started looking to see where things are made recently and its getting harder and harder to find anything made in the USA. I looked over the DVD players at Wal Mart and every one was made in China, even the Sony..lol

NEW YORK (Reuters) - General Motors Corp. is pushing its U.S. suppliers to offer lower prices, in line with levels charged by overseas suppliers,
Yeah GM, lets' force suppliers to cut wages so no on can afford your cars....you know money doesn't grow on trees..
If this happens, a Mustang will be in my future...along with trading off all of my GM products!

Re: 5 gen to be made in korea?

I think it is a little unrealistic for anyone to believe that an entire car or even parts of a car should be manufactured in a country where it would cost the manufacturer significantly more to produce than in another country where you could produce the same product for one fifth the cost. Now I know some of you are going to say that quality would be severely lacking if the product were produced in the country the could make the product cheaper, but as long the manufacture could set quality standards for the product and make sure they were adhered to I don’t see it being a issue then.

Also if you don’t want outsourcing of a product to happen, the people that are bidding on the contract have to be reasonable and not ask for a ludicrous amount of money for a contract. Because if this happens no wonder company’s that are looking at there bottom line outsource. So what I’m saying if you can’t be competitive in the workplace your going to loose your job.

I mean if you go shopping for a product and you find it at one store for say $80 and then you go to another store and you find the same product there for $50, which store are you going to buy the product from? Well DUH of course from the store that sells it for $50.

As a supplier you have to always be on the look out for ways to cut your production cost of an item. So that when a large buyer (such as GM) comes to you and says we need you to drop the price of the product X amount for us to stay in business. What you can do then is try and work with them and find out the amount that you can charge them and still make a reasonable profit. For this to happen there needs to be two way communication.

This is so ironic. Toyotas are made in Kentucky or whatever, and GM's are made in china and korea!? wtf?

I also found a horrible fact, GM, Ford, and DiamlerChrysler's stock put together is less than 1/3 of Toyota's. What happened!?

Re: 5 gen to be made in korea?

It would help if the UAW hadn't jacked the starting pay on the GM line to $19.83 per hour. That is not an economically viable wage for putting lug nuts on a car. Just because its your job doesn't mean you get to make a living at it. We wonder why manufacturing is dying in this country.

Not a hybrid but the low sulfur diesel compacts should be out from everyone within the next 2 years. I would LOVE to have a Opel Astra 1.3 TDI 6 speed right now, BTW look for that in Saturn's stable in a few years.
