5.3 L V8 Impala SS...anyone excited?

If rumors are true of a FWD 5.3L V8 Impala SS , would anyone be excited about a car like that?

I personally wouldn't be too interested in the car, but I think it'd be a step in the right direction. If I were in the market for a quick FWD sedan I'd jump over to the Pontiac side, V8 Impala or not.

If it was at least 290 HP, and came at the price that it is now, then yeah, if not, it's just another car

I'd be way more interested if it was a V8 Monte.

Speaking of which, what is happening to the Monte come 2006-7? Has anyone heard? Guion's post on the Camaro/GTO/Regal was awesome...but does this mean Monte is dead? I assume yes

We drive the Impalas as patrol cars at work and Ive always been fairly impressed with how they handle and the interior room. If they were to get the V8 I would definately get one as a family car to complement the Camaro. RWD or no, they are still a nice car.

There is not a ton of V8 FWD cars out there right now... so it would give Impala a nice place in the automotive world.

AGain, most family car drivers could care less if the car was RWD or FWD, and probably lean toward FWD because of the perception of RWD being impossible to handle in less than perfect weather.

While RWD is more important to me than a V8, This is a huge step in the right direction

Finally earning that SS badge

Still would have too many doors, no RWD, and no available manual transmission.

No thanks.

Rumors of a V8 Impala SS? I think not :

"The Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo will get V8s when restyled versions come out for the 2006 model year, dealers were told at the make meeting."

"Chevrolet Monte Carlos and Impalas will get V-8 engines. No timing was announced publicly."

That's what I'm talking about. I think this will be really good. Maybe when they come out they will have around 300hp.

THat would be cool if they added AWD to the current cars.

I think an AWD 300HP 5.3L V8 Monte Calro would be worth $30,000

i think that you could have both. if you have the Monte be the full size rwd coupe and the Camaro be the smaller, sporty rwd coupe.

I would consider such a car....as long as the torque management issues are cured and it performed well.

Although my wife's vehicle typically tends to the kid transport duties....I do have a need for a 5 passenger car that can be used to tote wifey and three kids around in a pinch.

And really, I'm not all that bothered about it being FWD either.

Of course if I ever got one, it would be the first car I've had for myself (wife's vehicles not included) without a manual trans....in a quarter century.
