Cadillac has released the final horsepower quotes for its upcoming STS-V sedan - and the supercharged four-door will sport 469 horsepower when it goes on sale early in 2006. The STS-V's 4.4-liter supercharged V-8 also will spin out 439 pound-feet of torque under the new guidelines for measurement adopted recently by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The STS-V will be the most powerful Cadillac ever, and will accelerate to 60 mph in less than 5.0 seconds, GM promises. The same engine will be used in the XLR-V roadster but in that vehicle, it will produce slightly less horsepower: 443 hp and 414 lb-ft of torque.
Damn. Thats-alotta-power!

(These new, odd numbers hp ratings are going to make it hard to remember what has what as far as HP and TQ numbers... )

At least they are more accurate than saying 400hp, 425, 450, etc etc.

True.... it's definately a more accurate setup.

Just makes it a little tougher to remember everything in my head.

Re: 469 Horsepower

That sounds like a high 12 second sedan! Pretty good, should compete nicely with AMG E-Class.

Re: 469 Horsepower

This might sound strange, but I was wondering how it might compare to the competition in mpg. ?

Not to downplay the amazing numbers of the SC 4.4 Northstar, but this new SAE rating...if applied to other cars such as the E55 or M5, would their numbers change as well?

Sure but not necessarily up. Lexus V8 cars got down rated to ~288(?) from 300HP. The Z06 only gained 5HP with the new rating.

Thanks for starting the thread Darth, this is great news an deserves it's own thread. It is interesting the difference between the XLR and STS with the same engine. ULS should get the S/C 4.4L standard since a V12 isn't ready.

God I wish I had Cadillac money (were is the jealous icon?)

Re: 469 Horsepower

The new hp number could become the next marketing thing. Just like back in the musclecar heyday when we had displacement numbers that rolled off your tongue nicely (396, 440, 426/427), perhaps horsepower ratings will gain prominence.

469 has a nice ring to it.

"What engine that have it?"
"The 469 one."

Re: 469 Horsepower

AWESOME!!!!!!! I was hoping Cadillac wouldn't come to the market with fewer horses under the hood than what Benz has been offering for the past two years. It better be faster than the E55 too. That will require better than a high 12 second quarter mile

"The Supercharged Northstar V-8 will also power the upcoming V-Series edition of the XLR luxury roadster slated for production in early-2006. XLR-V is certified at 443 hp at 6,400 rpm and 414 lbs.-ft. of torque at 3900 rpm. The Supercharged Northstar generates more peak power for the STS-V, compared to the XLR-V, due largely to the greater underhood space of the STS that allows more induction and exhaust capacity. On the other hand, the XLR-V will be a quicker car than the STS-V, given its superior power-to-weight ratio"
