Mexico's Nemak Wins Contract To Make Engine Blocks For GM
14:57 EST Thursday, Jan 19, 2006
MEXICO CITY -(Dow Jones)- Nemak, the auto parts unit of Mexican conglomerate Alfa SA (ALFA.MX), said Thursday it won a contract to build new V6 engine blocks for General Motors Corp. (GM) vehicles.
Alfa said the program calls for output of 450,000 blocks a year, and that production is set to begin at the end of 2006 at its facility in Windsor, Ontario.
Nemak said the production involves an innovation in the manufacturing process developed by its own engineers. "It also reflects our customer's drive to develop more efficient and powerful engines that require the replacement of iron by aluminum in these components," the company added.
Nemak has operations in Mexico, Canada, Germany, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Its sales in 2005 totaled $1.24 billion.

Excellent find poSSum, so 450000 HF/HiPo V6 blocks at a Canadian plant.
I don't think Buick, Cadillac, and Pontiac account for that much volume.
Sounds like Camaro may be tooling up and given just-in-time manufacturing processess other components should follow very-very soon.
Re: 450,000 Aluminum V6 Blocks for GM
I just thought of something. Maybe this could be the next V6 for the full size trucks? The 4.3L is based off the old Gen1 SBC V8s and has been around for ages.
