Re: 2014 Silverado

I'm encouraged! It looks like they are adding length to the rear doors / rear seat area. This is much needed when compared with the crew cabs from the competition these days. Also, that is a crew cab body with a 6.5 ft box (give or take). That is a combo that Ford currently offers on half tons, but GM does not. You have to step up to the HD trucks to get the 6.5' box with GM crews; otherwise you only get the 5'9" box.

And if it really is lighter (I kinda doubt 500 lbs, especially if the cab is growing, but who knows?), that would kick *** too.

Re: 2014 Silverado

In my mind the current Silverado already has too much chrome and now they want to add more?

Quite frankly, I love the front end on the Tahoe and wish they'd incorporate a more monochrome look into the Silverado.

Oh well, I guess I can always buy another (used) Tahoe.

Before I even read your post those where the exact two things that jumped out at me. I refuse to buy a fullsize truck with a tiny *** bed Kind of defeats the purpose of having a bed in my mind and I've never liked how the proportions looked with the tiny bed...

You forgot to add that Dodge, Toyota, and I'm pretty sure Nissan also offer a "true" shortbed (6.5') with their crew cabs.

I think for 2012-2013 they should have switched to the Tahoe front end, or at least made it an option.

I'm talking about the true crew cabs, not the extended cabs. Toyota and Dodge don't use suicide doors, so even their "extended cabs" are called crew cabs by some people. Dodge, Toyota, GM, and Ford all have 3 cab sizes (not counting the HD-only Ram Mega Cab option). Regular cab with one row of seating, extended cab with somewhat tight rear seat, and crew cab with roomier rear seat. They also have 3 bed sizes.

Actually, it looks like maybe Toyota dropped the reg cab. So now they have the "Double Cab" (extended cab, but doors are not suicide-style, same as the Ram) and the "Crew Max". Double cab has 78" bed (6.5'); crew cab has 66.7" bed (5'6.7"). Same with the current GM trucks - extended cab gets a 6.5' box, crew cab half ton gets a 5'9" box (actually longer than most other crew cab boxes, the benefit of giving up a few inches of rear legroom I guess). The Ram is the same way. The "quad cab" (extended cab, but not suicide doors) has the longer short bed (6'4"), while the crew cab has a shorter bed (5'7"). Incidentally, with the '02-'08 Ram, there was no regular crew cab option. They only had two cab sizes, regular cab and "quad cab", which had to do double duty against the extended cabs and the crew cabs from GM and Ford. Now they offer regular, quad, and crew (again, not counting the Mega Cab, which is yet a 4th option).

Ford, however, offers the 6.5' bed with both the extended cab AND the crew cab. With the other brands, you have to get an HD truck to get the biggest cab and the 6.5' bed. Ford offers their half ton crew with both the shorter 5.5' bed (the traditional "SuperCrew" setup) and, as of ~'06 or so, the 6.5' bed as well.

The spy photo in this thread makes it look like GM may do the same as Ford, unless that is an HD in the pics (but I don't think it is).

I think it would be cool if they offered a regular cab with the 5'9" box.

I think that would look pretty stubby. I guess it might be like a K5 Blazer in length.

Re: 2014 Silverado

I don't think the Silverado is feminine just rather plain and the style is too much like the last two generations. I too like the Tahoe/Suburban front fascia better than the Silverado. Sierra looks best IMO.

I'm encouraged about a potential weight loss. 500lbs would make quite a difference.

I agree 99%... I don't think the current trucks look anything like the previous generations. I've had my Z71 (GMT800) side by side with other GMT900s many many many times and there is nothing similar between the two. The new trucks actually make my truck look small

And yes, the Sierra looks the best. I may own my first GMC when I truck shop for a used 08-10ish truck in a couple years... unless this new truck is some kind of sexy home run with a powerful V6 or small diesel that's capable of pulling 6,000 lbs and can get 17/18 city and 25-27 highway... sigh... a guy can dream...
