2012+ Focus RS to get electronic RWD...

.. with a ecoboost 2.0L driving the front wheels. Ok, so I guess that makes it AWD.

What do you guys make of this http://www.egmcartech.com/2010/07/23...lectric-motor/

Sources say that the next RS version of the Focus could be powered by a turbocharged gasoline engine mated to a torquey electric-motor mounted to the rear-axle. Insiders say that Ford’s Team RS engineers have already started messing around with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine and plan on using an electric-motor for more power. Working together, they system is expected to produce somewhere north of 300-hp.

That would make it a true hybrid then. The way I read it the electric motor is there to help the gas motor.

Thats totally backwards, it should be rwd with the electric motors powering the front wheels, especially for regen braking, unless they plan to do away with rer brakes altogether.

I doubt the platform would accept such a setup. I am betting this electic rear setup is more of a tack-on thing to the existing car. I will be interesting to see how well it does.

Holy shmoly, a 300+hp focus from the factory? If that's true, watch out! That could be just as fast the the 2011 Mustang GT. Not to mention what a dyno tune, or a mail order tune for that matter, could do.

Not too shabby, though I imagine it's hard to tune an electric motor. The Europe RS is not a cheap car. This thing could get to Mustang GT territory price too if they're not careful

with a turbo 2.0L engine, 300hp to me sounds like those rear motors are going to be pretty small. I agree, it sounds like a tack-on job, something akin to GM's less than impressive belt driven hybrids.

The current top factory Euro focus is 350 hp.....but its fwd and maybe heavier? I can see this making for much better launches and helping to reduce torque steer.

The price for a Focus RS is going to be in the [b]mid-$30K range[/i].... right in WRXi and Evo territory.

Mustang GT costs just over $30K.... not to mention being bigger, having more cylinders, more room, etc...

The Focus RS is gonna be quite a car, no doubt.

However, if any of you think of this as a cheap alternative to a Mustang GT, it's not.

I kind of like having the instant torque on the back wheels.
