Not a fan of the *** end at all. Don't know how heavy the car is, but 355 & 350 should get it moving in a non-grandma like manner. Still pretty far behind the G8 in performance, but if the interior is what the previous pics have shown, they win the that department.

The Taurus weighs 3600 pounds... roughly the same weight as an Impala LTZ.
The Impala SS weighs 3711, has 303 horsepower, 323 lbs/ft of torque, does 0-60 in about 5.7 seconds, does the quarter in just a hair over 14 seconds, & has a top speed of 155 mph.
The G8 weighs 3995, has 385 hp & 355 torque, does 0-60 in 5.3, the quarter a couple hairs under 14 seconds.
The Ecoboost V6 will have 355 hp, 350 lbs/ft of torque. With AWD and turbo tubing, I expect the Taurus to gain at least 200 pounds, bringing the weight up to at least 3800 pounds. AWD means quicker off the line performance.
LS1s F-bodies were about 5.2 to 60 and ran13 and a half quarters by comparison.
I'd say the Taurus SHO will be at the very least on par with the G8 GT.
I guess if you consider the acceleration of a pre-2001 LS1 Camaro (at least to 60) a non-grandma like manner, then yea, I guess the new SHO moves in a non-grandma like manner.

I was impressed. The black leather interior was very nice. Ergonomics were good, visibility was good. Obviously peppy. Trim was all secure and no rattles or noises. Gaps between body panels was even and tight.
So I give up... What's the problem with the Impy SS?

I don't get it either. It's not class-leading, so apparently it's straight out of the dark ages.
Posting about a non-class-leading car in this forum is just like posting a picture of a reasonably attractive girl in the Lounge -- everyone focuses on the negative, and nobody acknowledges that there is anything good about it.

Just the fact that it's not class-leading. There are better cars, and so the Impala is therefore awful.
You'd have to ask one of the critics if you wanted to hear actual complaints. As I recall, they had some issues with the interior design.

The only thing endearing about the Impala is its quickness in the SS model (even then, only about 6sec 0-60). Other than that, it's a horribly bland looking car (looks almost exactly like a larger version of the 1997 Lumina), with an extremely dated interior that doesn't really look much different than anything from around 1998 save the new radio/HVAC block module. It's a front wheel drive V8 car, which I'm not even going to begin to get into. Considering what the previous generation of Impala was made of, it was a nice step forward. But it's the kind of car that should have been coming out in 1998, not 2006. It's a slight step above bland. And isn't in the same class as the new SHO coming out. I can't honestly see anybody who can objectively look at these two cars and actually choose the Impy over the SHO.
