This price is great, absolutely fantastic. I also must say that GM did quite a good job today on the media webcast, the Q&A session was great. They even took one of my questions about the CTS Coupe!

My only concern with price and one that unfortunately they didn't have time to get to is this puts it right in the crosshairs of the Chevrolet Travserse. There have already been people on the Chevy Traverse Forum that have cross shopped a Traverse and SRX, this will go further to step on the toes of the Traverse IMO.

 

Isn't the new SRX smaller than the Traverse though? I know that the current Equinox at least is a good deal smaller than the Traverse inside and out.

 

Yeah, the SRX is smaller than the Traverse but larger than an Equinox.

 

Eh...its about the same size as the new Nox. They are built on similar platforms, the Caddy gets a higher end chassis.

The SRX is a nice car, but lacks a few featuers that should be there in this segment, and also needed to bring in some additional features that dont.
Caddy made a safe RX fighter, but thats going to be a tough nut to crack.

 

Such as? I will readily admit that this is not a segment that I follow. I know the vehicles that are in it, but past that my knowledge of these vehicles is pretty abysmal.

 

Someone on GMI pointed out just a few things, from the details to major systems that are lacking to featuers found in other GM vehicles but not in this.

360 Degree Cameras (Infiniti and Nissan have this)

Front Active Parking Sensors (Basically every luxury maker..)

Adaptive Cruise Control (This is old news when it comes to luxury and Fords have it) Automatic Parallel Parking (Lexus, Lincoln and Ford)

Pre-Crash Safety (Mercedes is known for this technology, but Lexus is beginning to implement it)

Automatic High/Lo Beams (Escalade has it, but GM is inconsistent...)

Active Head Restraints (Saab has had the technology for ages, GM just doesn't implement it in any other brand; Hyundia has them...)

Side Repeaters worked into the side mirrors ala Mercedes...

 

I'm glad they priced this more like a BRX than a SRX. I think it will be a sales success.

I own an '07 SRX. The new one is a little too small for me. Are there still plans to put the escalade on the same platform as the traverse? That may be where we go for our next SUV. The current Escalade is too big and has too much bling for my taste.

 

I feel the exact same way.

My only problem is that even if Escalade goes on Lambda, I have a hard time seeing myself coughing up presumably significantly more cash for a Lambda Escalade, when I can just go buy an Enclave and get 95% of the same package.

This is all assuming I am willing to give up the RWD biased AWD for a FWD platformed (is that a word?) AWD, but maybe I am making too much out of all that.

 

but even with the current escalade you can do that with the yukon denali.

 

Absolutely.... and a major reason why I can never see myself buying a current Escalde either.

And for the most part, the same reason why I'd probably never buy a current DTS, with a loaded up Lucerne getting you 95% there as well.

 

Thanks Big Als Z. The inconsistency GM has with offering features on certain models but not on others is something that has been bothering me for a while. I do not understand how no one can step up and say these features should be spread across the models. If they do step up and mention this and then get shot down by management then that is even worse.

The Coupe is still on track to come out, but has been delayed slightly. Here's a report from January citing a summer 2010 launch.

Yeah, I think they have their priorities backwards. Maybe the wagon was cheaper and faster to develop/produce
