So why would I spend the money on a LS7 crate motor if I can get similar performance from a LS3?

Pretty sure you can do the same mods to the LS7 and get up to 525-550ish rwhp if memory serves, guess it depends on how wild you want to get. Be interesting to see what a complete LS3 crate motor costs too. The LS3 sure is impressive since it's the volume "base" motor. I sure hope to heck the LS3 (without significant detuning) is what is available in an affordable 09 Camaro model though, that will be very darn sweet if so... I can only dream of a $30k Camaro w/ that engine, it's going to be an absolute screamer if it doesn't weigh 2 tons...

Wow that's just amazing. It's like the LS1 is re-invented!

The '09 Camaro would do well to have the LS3 or the next one in the LS series. I ahve a feeling with the weight potential we'll need the power.

LS7 was built to show people what GM is capable of. Its not really intended for engine swaps where budget constraints are an issue.

But yeah, this LS3 does close the gap quite a bit. I wonder what pricing will be like for it.

Well, why did GMPP swap it into a 4th gen Z, and a GTO and say "this is to show its do-able for people to swap it themselves."

If you have $15,000 for an LS7 laying around (not including the oiling system if I remember right) you're probably not the every day guy. GMPP showed how cool and relatively simple it was, not necessarily how attainable it was for the shadetree mechanic.

507 rwhp / 457 rwtq after long tubes, intake, moderate cam swap, and tune??

I NEED to get a clean C5 and find a way to get that combo in the car...

I hope they dyno a "Bolt-On" LS3. A cam is not a minor mod by any means, so I'm looking forward to dyno results from "Intake, Headers, Tune"

That engine is phenominal.
