2008 Colorado SS
2008 Colorado SS
VEHICLE HIGHLIGHTS:
LS2 6.0L V-8 with 400 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. torque that exhales through a custom-built performance exhaust from the catalyst rearward
Heavy-duty 4L70-E four-speed automatic transmission with floor shifter
Heavy-duty 9.5-inch rear axle with a locking differential for added traction and a short 3.73:1 rear axle ratio for rapid acceleration.
Weighing in at under 3,500lbs and with Front disc brakes measuring over 12 inches that are sourced from the full-size Chevrolet Silverado; rear disc brakes from the Chevrolet TrailBlazer; the SS should have no trouble hauling to a stop.
Lowered suspension riding on brushed nickel-plated 20-inch Silverado SS rims
Stylized interior with unique trim, bezels, and seats
Custom exterior package with unique grille, fascias, flares, rocker extensions and tonneau cover.

GM reached back in its musclecar era for this SS hauler. An air-induction system, tailored straight from the '70 SS Chevelle platform, provides cool air from the windscreen. At high speeds, the windscreen will build air pressure at its base. This pressure will help the pistons fill the engine's cylinders through the air induction ducts.

Re: 2008 Colorado SS
Is that really going to be made? I thought it was just a concept? Some thing about it look more aftermarket than I'd expect in a factory vehicle. The carpet-lined bed is something I sure hope they make removable or optional.
Also, they better not even think about coming out with a 2008 model without the new 6-speed.
Other than that, very cool.
N/A with 400hp and lighter than the old lightning.
I really loved the Ford Lightning concept from a couple years back... I know it got scrapped, but I wonder if all these new muscletrucks might entice Ford to come back out and compete again?
edit: I just realized, I thought I'd read the Colorado was due for a redesign for 08? 09 at the latest? If so this would be kind of a wasted effort for only 1 model year... wouldn't it?

Re: 2008 Colorado SS

That was last year's concept truck. I have heard nothing official saying it is going into production (which your "2008" sounds like will happen)...
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see this truck happen, but as far as I know it is still a concept.
Are you just now digging up pics/specs of the concept (how it looks to me), or has a production date been set?

So eh... 1.5 tons is 3000 pounds.
Not quite.

. Truck is the old one shown at SEMA 2004. Even the pics are the same (basically old pics). There have been nothing official as far as production plans that i've heard of, and i've heard nothing about the CSS in general for the last year which leads me to believe it will simply stay a nice concept/showtruck and nothing more.
I think the only sports truck we'll see from GM in the near future will be the Silverado SS. Imo, there's really no point in offering the CSS with the SilveradoSS around.
Re: 2008 Colorado SS
I don't know, anyone else think that this truck has alittle too much gingerbread?
I'd rather delete all the airdams, spoilers, ground effects, badges, fancy wheels and ghetto interior.
I'll take a regular worktruck exterior, with steel wheels and center caps, rubber floor mats, bench seat and a six speed shifter sticking up off the floor.....oh, and posi.

I was thinking 1500 lbs (I thought Lightnings were closer to 4900 lbs), which is 1.5K. Then, since I was typing in a hurry, I decided to type 1.5 tons instead of 1.5K or 3/4 of a ton.
I am ashamed.
Yes, I knew that it was not 3000 lbs lighter; I thought it was closer to 1500 (looks like it is actually closer to 1100-1200 lbs, which is still very significant.

Re: 2008 Colorado SS
Just found this article, apparentley this truck was a show truck at the 04' SEMA show. So this may not be crediable.
