The Olds 403 has a lot of potential, I hear. A big bore and a short stroke can make for lots of power. Out of the factory, they only had 185hp, though, with their single exhaust, pellet cat, and 8:1 CR.

The only way you're going to amaze me with spark plug access difficulty is if I had to pull pistons out of the engine to get to the plugs.

Not shabby for a "choked" engine.

So Bob, if 360hp in a 3300 lb car would get your attention, how about 427hp in a 3450 lb car?
A Mustang?
An S197 Mustang?
Loaded with ground effects, trim, bells, and whistles?
With 14" rotors and 18" rims?
On sale now, retail.

I wish it could happen, but I just don't see Mustang getting lighter. At least not significantly.
I wouldn't mind being proven wrong though.

PS - what if the car above had a blower on it to boot, and still comes in at 3450 lbs?!?!

Gear ratios (both rear end and transmission), suspension setup, and the overall shape of the torque curve will also play a large part. There are more than just those factors, but those are the most significant.

Again, I am with you in all sentiments, but I think there is actually hope that Ford can trim-down the porker a little bit. Ford will HAVE to start turning the corner on weight/v./horsepower sometime, and I don't see why it can't be today. It needs to happen for everything except the pickups (SD/HD units especially) IMO, and the sooner the better. Hybrids will gain efficiency, fuel cell cars would gain range, and numerous other benefits come along too for gas-burners, diesels, and everything else.

Does it really weigh 3450 pounds when based off of a 2007 GT, and with a full tank of gas, etc?
