Re: 2008 Bullitt, and a new engine...

Isn't the 6.6 the olds 403? I was under the impression that it wasn't really a Pontiac motor to begin with.

The 6.6 Liter was an Olds 403. The T/A 6.6 was a Pontiac 400.

The Olds 403 has a lot of potential, I hear. A big bore and a short stroke can make for lots of power. Out of the factory, they only had 185hp, though, with their single exhaust, pellet cat, and 8:1 CR.

It also helped to replace the 2.41, 2.56 or 2.73 rear gear ratios. Twofortyone rear end! Think about it.

Yes, and a 2.52 1st in the TH350. Of course, wheels were much smaller back then -- tire circumference was probably less too.

Proud.....I've owned 3 Thunderbird SCs and a LT1 Camaro.

The only way you're going to amaze me with spark plug access difficulty is if I had to pull pistons out of the engine to get to the plugs.

Only 185 horsepower. But if memory serves, they had more torque than LS1s.

Not shabby for a "choked" engine.

Ok time to leak a little... the cat's out of the bag (the cat in the hat that is).
So Bob, if 360hp in a 3300 lb car would get your attention, how about 427hp in a 3450 lb car?
A Mustang?
An S197 Mustang?
Loaded with ground effects, trim, bells, and whistles?
With 14" rotors and 18" rims?
On sale now, retail.

Well, It Lives.

I wish it could happen, but I just don't see Mustang getting lighter. At least not significantly.

I wouldn't mind being proven wrong though.

Again, I am with you in all sentiments, but I think there is actually hope that Ford can trim-down the porker a little bit. Ford will HAVE to start turning the corner on weight/v./horsepower sometime, and I don't see why it can't be today. It needs to happen for everything except the pickups (SD/HD units especially) IMO, and the sooner the better. Hybrids will gain efficiency, fuel cell cars would gain range, and numerous other benefits come along too for gas-burners, diesels, and everything else.

PS - what if the car above had a blower on it to boot, and still comes in at 3450 lbs?!?!

Yes, it is a 4.6 derivative.

This 427HP 3450lb car on paper would have a strong likelihood of our gunning the 500HP 3900+lb GT500. Straight line it may be very close, but I would think on the road course the 3450lb would be tough to beat.

Not necessarily.

Gear ratios (both rear end and transmission), suspension setup, and the overall shape of the torque curve will also play a large part. There are more than just those factors, but those are the most significant.

That would be absolutely Awesome. My only issue would be....

...I'm kind of over the blower thing. Would much prefer N/A. Oh well. Oh....can do without the ground effects too, but like most else, that's just personal preference, and I'm being rather picky.

Greatly appreciate the info!

Isn't this just the Roush 427?

http://www.roushperformance.com/mustang_427r.shtml

Does it really weigh 3450 pounds when based off of a 2007 GT, and with a full tank of gas, etc?
