I see they decided to go with the blue to purple compressor and a purple to blue intercooler, while maintaining the traditional red-red turbine.

are there threads on those fuel injectors? how do they keep compression?

is that a computer controlled thermostat or are they building the temperature sensor into the housing now?

I can say that I am certainly not a fan.

On my wife's 4runner the filter is up top, but does not function like that whole cap/filter design. What is the stated advantage to that design and what the heck makes it more expensive? Seems like if anything it'd be less?

On my wife's 4runner they say it just makes it easier to get to - I dunno if it has any filtration or circulation benefits or not. I do know that it's really easy to remove... just reach in and grab it, and there's a 'catcher' built in where it screws in so as the oil exits (which isn't much since it's upside down) it 'catches' it and you just wipe it off with a rag.

Overall I'm not crazy about it but it seems to work OK

(under the bottom right corner of the engine cover - it's much more accessible by hand that it appears in that pic from that angle)

That does look really easy to get to . Also look you can actually see extra space in the engine bay! That is hard to come by real estate these days.

Yeah... we ordered her 4runner with the V8 but the wholesaler guy we bought from made an honest mistake and put down the wrong engine code when he ordered it for us. He was already hooking us up as a friend of the family and if we refused the car he would have been stuck with a 4runner and not much of a feasible way to sell it. Anyhow - point being I've always noticed what an insane amount of extra space is in that engine bay and I've always intended to look under the hood of a V8 model to see if they use most of that space or not...

The other side is just as wide open

IF I had one I'd ditch the plastic cover on day one, that thing looks cool!
