To its credit, GM is usually able to get pretty good numbers out of their V8s without sacrificing fuel economy. Not just the EPA ratings, but in the real world too. The Hemi seems to suffer the same drawback as its 1960s namesake, i.e. dismal fuel economy.

Yep. And as nice as the Jeep is, i'm suprised no one mentioned its gas mileage, especially when gas mileage got its own threads not too long ago.

You don't care about gas mileage when you buy a vehicle like this.

Yea it is. This is a sport utility vehicle for moving 4+ people and alot of trunk space. Even if you don't mind paying for the gas, you might end up being inconvenienced by having to fill up so much. I'm not arguing that its a bad car, just saying this is its weakness.

No it's not. It's simply a toy. It's not meant to carry 4 people or go off roading.

Re: 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8

This thing is meant to be more than a toy, I think. Maybe for you its a toy, but I am sure many buyers will be using these as daily transport. And as such, 12 MPG sucks. Advantage = Chevy, for sure.

Nice rig, but I don't see where its worth that much over the SS. I also don't see where it will do 0-60 in under 5 seconds. The CHARGER SRT-8 barely does it in under 5, and that weighs 600 lbs less! I don't see it...at all.

When the TB SS has 395hp and this has 20 or 25 more, and they both weigh around the same, I'd expect the 0-60 of both to be about the same.

Jason, only reason I see it pulling in under 5 is the whole 4WD thing. That sure does make it easier to put all 425 ponies down to the ground.

What gearing with the TB SS be loaded with? The GC SRT8 has 3.73's.

Right...but the TB SS has AWD too...so there's no real advantage there, I don't think...

Sorry, I thought you were comparing the SRT-8 Jeep to the SRT-8 Charger for the 0-60 times. That's why I was figuring in the AWD/4WD thing.

Either way, I'd hate to see these things hit 60 that quick. Like a freight train coming through.

Yup, 4spd auto. And still rated as better mpg then the srt-8.
6spd auto would make a great addition.
