Are you ( and 100,000 of your closest friends) willing to shell out $23,000 for the HHR retro wagon?

GM seems to thinks so - http://autoweek.com/cat_content.mv?p..._code=02656807

Man stuff like that makes me question GM's turn around....I mean come on?

My notes on it-
1. It doesn't have the cute factor that the PT does, so women won't like it. It is actually really bland looking to me.

2. "High Heritage Roof" huh? How bout 6YL? for "6 years late".

3. I have not heard mention of AWD, yet they expect to compete with the CRV and RAv4?

4. With this thing have a base 140HP ecotec or supercharged one?

5. Why would someone buy this ugly thing when the Equinox will be in the same showroom, cost the same, be larger, offer a V6 standard, and look 1000x better?

6. The PT has been loosing sales every year since it came out...showing people are loosing intereast in this type of car.

Im guessing the Equinox is going to be around $5,000 more expensive then the HHR considering that it will have a standard v6 compared to the HHR's stardard 4 cyl.

Either way they are both expensive.

Before I left the dealership, my dealer info indicated the Equinox was going to max out at $25k just as the Malibu Maxx is supposed to in LT trim. I would have pegged the HHR as being around $21-22k max...where did the 23 # come from?

"It will give us a much stronger entree into the youth market," Dewar said at a Chevrolet-GMC press event here.

Goddamit, if ONE more executive says some friggen FWD tall-*** wagon is a YOUTH MARKET CAR, I will kill someone...

Vibes are not selling to my age bracket...
Neither are Elements
Neither are PT Cruisers
Neither Scions going to, I bet

When will the madness end?? A 23 like me year old wants something fun to drive and sporty, or used...

NOT A TALL WAGON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The article linked to in the first post....

The vehicle, which will draw on styling cues from the 1949 Chevrolet Suburban and 2003 SSR pickup, will be priced around $23,000, said Chevrolet General Manager Brent Dewar.

The (Theta-based) Saturn Vue is basically a shorter version of the new Equinox. Considering the Equinox is longer and comes standard with a v6 and has a more upscale interior I think the base price of the Equinox will be around $24,995.00.

A loaded V6 Saturn Vue sells for around $26,000 (base 4cyl Vue is around $19,000) and I expect the standard v6 Equinox to get a $2,000 premium over it smaller and less-refined v6 Saturn sibling.

Being that most PT owners I see are guys around 40 and I've yet to see the Scion driven by anyone under 30 something, I wonder how they do their market research.

The HHR will arrive in the Chevrolet lineup about a year after another sport wagon, the 2005 Equinox.
I thought that the Equinox was an SUV?

It was a rhetorical question I know where it came from, its just that with the Equinox appearing to be a fair amount more car for not a lot more $$, I wonder where the hell they determined $23k was a good idea for this thing...
