The 6-speed will be a nice option for the SSR. It's too bad they're so expensive though.

Glad to see they're gonna give it some power. The '04 should have had a LS1 instead of that lil ol 5.3

Hopefully they can knock alittle off the price too. If they can get all the stuff listed there, and sell it for 35-40k this thing would sell like hotcakes.

47grand is just too pricey for most people

I think they actually look pretty good in person.

The only faults I found with the original was the underpowered engine(Which they apparently fixed), and price. Those things are wicked expensive.

Performance numbers with the LS2 look

Find a way to make it a bit less expensive and it'd be really cool.

Welcome to Last Month.

And the SSR isnt 47, its at 43. The SSR isnt ment to be for everbody. Thats why they dont make 300k units a year. Its a niche car that sells to a different market. It seems to be selling quite well with its present setting.
Can you name another hard top convertable that has ~400hp, 6spd manual, RWD, and for under 50k? They arent all that expesnsive.
As for the looks... thats up to you and your opinion. I think it looks really good. A real head-turner when you see one.

It finally gets the power it needs

It is an expensive truck, but I don't know if it is overpriced. Like Big Als Z said, there is no other ~400HP retractable hardtops for under $50,000

I looked at 2 yesterday both were 47,XXX sticker price.

They might be selling for 43, but thats not what the sticker says.

The base price is $42,245. They are selling very hot and I'm not suprised to see a fully loaded on sell for $47K. in some cities people are paying $2500 over MSRP

If some are really going for $2500 over MSRP, that puts the 2 I looked at yesterday right at 50k then.

I've looked at quite a few and Haven't seen one under 45k sticker. If these 42k base models really exsist they didnt ship em to Illinois

At 1st, I felt that the SSR was just another GM truck putting a nail in their automobile development budget. Today, I feel the SSR is actually a pretty cool piece of machinery.

I would have rather seen the SSR become the bodywork for the S10 replacement instead of an expensive "exclusive" model, but I have to admit, it's a showstopper & a showroom traffic builder.

Although I'm probally never going to buy one myself (so this probally doesn't matter), 3 of the 4 things I had issues with are fixed. It needed more juice, it needed a manual, and that hood was pretty d*mn heavy! I still think the interior plastic is cheap and extremely fragile (the H2 is the same way), but at least it looks great.

In case anyone cares, I drove an LS2 (auto, unfortuately) SSR yesterday, and what a difference over the 5.3!! It actually pulls with authority now. Will it run with a Vette? Of course not (since it is, what, 1500 lbs heavier with basically the same engine)... But it is still a really cool truck. It actually feels weird, though, after driving my Miata around. I put the top down in the SSR, and you feel WAY up there (which you are, cause its a truck!). But it actually felt pretty solid, and the interior is nicer than I remembered (most of the SSRs I've been in have been very early/crude development vehicles). I think the interior comes off much better than does the H2s (the H3 interior will cream the H2s, for that matter). The shift **** felt solid, and I just thought the overall interior looked really good (especially with the red trim; it was a red SSR). Biggest beef for me is that the power seat controls are hard to reach. You have to squeeze your hand between the seat and the door. But honestly, once you've found your position, how often do you adjust the seat? A very small nit to pick. The ride was surprisingly smooth, too. It won't chase my Miata through a corner, but it doesn't embarass itself either. Feels much grippier and flatter than any truck I've been in (besides the crack-your-teeth SRT-10, in which I've had a brief kidney-damaging ride).

I still think it looks cool as hell, especially with the running boards (the only truck I can think of that looks better with them, simply because of the way they fit between the fenders). Lower it an inch or two, and Check out this month's Motor Trend for a sample of a kick *** SSR (aftermarket company that installs LS6 - or bigger - engines and 19/20 inch Z06 style wheels). Mmmmm.

Joe here is the article you mentioned.

http://www.motortrend.com/features/p...ner/index.html

worthwile to note that I actually passed by RSI just when the SSR was released and I remember seeing a silver and a blue on the lift. I believe this one is the same one, however at that time I didn't realize what exactly was going on besides regular/normal tuning...

The first package doesn't do too much in terms of performance and I'm guessing the LS2 SSR will probably be better stock from GM the thing I really want to know more about is the blower on top of the motor in the third package they mention....

What I don't get is that the SSR they have puts down 410 to the wheels but yet does the 1/4 in 14.3 while the LS2 which is "400" flywheel is supposed to push the SSR in the 1/4 much faster.. am I missing something here....

PS the Z06 rims don't seem to belong on the SSR IMHO.. anyone else feel the same?

NB: I have Chrome Z06s on my SS but these just don't look right

H3 will cream the H2's interior?

I wasn't impressed at all with the H2's interior. It looked nice from the outside, but it was simply a disaster from a durability standpoint. The one in at the LA show was coming apart (and this was before it opened to the public), and the one I checked out when I was GTO hunting last February looked like it would soon meet the same fate.

Hardly as tough as you'd expect from the reputation.
