Still, I don't see girls buying that. They are really aware of nonsense like retro and would be quick to call it "dumb." Besides that it's just weird looking. And kinda plain.

If you say it won't sell because women object to retro, then i say you are dead wrong. If you tell me the styling is a bit too masculine for the average women buyer, then i might be inclined to believe you.
However, the 3 women in my life (girlfriend, mom, and sister) actually like the looks of the 05. All three would be interested to see a drop top version. They don’t care for the v8, but the price and looks of the base v6 model does appeal to them….especially in that new light blue color.
3 reasons why I think it’ll sell
*retro or not, it is stylish.
* it does have the iconic factor
*It is “arguably” the number one most recognized name in the auto industry, and has maintained popularity throughout the years.
* the majority of mustang buyers are predominantly male. Infact, if you take out the female buyers for 2001, Ford still would have sold to 100,000+ males.
*Many here said sales will be very strong, and plummet a couple of years later. This happens all the time. But Ford does a good job of keeping interest and excitement alive. You have the three well recognized tuners (Saleen, Steeda, Roush), not to mention the special editions Ford puts out every year or so. Even by 2004, the mustang hasn’t grown stale despite not having a reskin in 6 years. The Mach 1 and Cobra pumped a lot of excitement into the last couple of years. You can expect special edition to play a large role down the line.
*GM vacated this market. Up till they can get an affordable sports coupe like the f-bod back on the market, potential buyers will be showing in Ford dealerships. This explains why there was a 10+% or sales increase in mustangs sold in 2003, when sales should have been dropping. You can be sure that many people who would have considered camaro/firebird, will be limited to mustang as far as options.
I can list a bunch of other reasons, but i'll limit it to this
. You can't base future mustang sales on sales of the PT, thunderbird, or beetle because they are different cars, with different goals, with different appeals, with different buyers, and with different markets. This is like saying the mustang won't sell in the late 90's and 2000's because the pony market has died, and the f-bod sales were dismissal. BUT!! despite everything pointing to a dead pony car market, the Mustang experienced sales success. There are always certain exceptions.
the more I see the new mustang the more I want one. It is just great looking. Modern technology and design with a style that reminds you of when cars werent, annoying
The only things that would keep me from getting one, atleast as my main car, are:
1. new camaro
2. new charger
3. engine under 300 cubes
4. loyalty towards GM would have me building a ram air TA or old school maro before I bought a stang
But I would love some day to have one in the driveway along with some other cars (with a 5.4 or something in it)

Stunning...........simply stunning.
Great looking car.
I won't be buying one - I'm a Camaro/Chevy guy at heart - but Ford may have nailed it with this one.
For producing a nice, reasonably priced V8 coupe to compete in this Rice Rocket age we live in..................Ford.

is it just me or does the interor door panels not cut it?
i know this is subjective but..they seem to just look like the were "stuck" on there and they look very 2d (not 3d as in popping out at you really)

also, i think time will tell on the whole female buying subject and to see if it keeps sales up, even with saleen and rousch doing cars and special editions coming out
i think females might be turned off by the old gauges (speedo, tach) and some other interior stuff which ultimately probably means more to them than just looking on the outside
also, i think it might doom itself if it sells well....read on
nowadays, you see more mustangs than ever and almost every friend i know says they are just too old looking (partly from their long 4th generation span 94-04 or something?) and everybody and their mom has one
i think with its "retro" look and if it sells, i could see it turning off some people because then it is just "plain"
then again, it might attract more since everybody has it but...
i can see it going both ways
i'm just anxious to see if...
1 it sells well
and 2 if the camaro will return to do some battle with it anytime soon

Believe it or not, I've actually heard women say they would buy this car just for the color changing guages. I don't think the font being used for the speedo and tach are going to be that much of a turn off though. The interior from what I've seen is very nice. Throw in the different interior color options (new from previous models) and I think many women will find something they would want.
