2004 Ion drops it's price.

http://www.saturnfans.com/Cars/ION/2...npricing.shtml

Ion...which is a mechanical twin of the upcomming Cobalt, has dropped it's price by about $1,000.

While Cobalt will move upscale....above the current Cavalier...Ion will be at the same starting price point as Aveo.

What do we make of this?

That Saturn is redundant and that if GM made Import quality Chevrolets then they wouldn't need Saturn to target "import buyers".

Think about how good Chevrolet could be if they had all that development money that's going to Saturn + Chevrolet. They'd probably sell a lot more than current Chevrolet + Saturn sales numbers.

Only the base/stripy sedan ion-1 has a reduced MSRP of a $1000. The ion-2 and ion-3 versions of the sedan and coupe are about the same price as 2003.

The base Ion-1 is really-really cheap now but the rest of the lineup is the same price so there is a big price descrepency between the ion-1 and the ion-2 now.

Agreed. If the whole Saturn idea had been nixed from the start, Cadillac would have started its revamping process earlier, and other divisons would have followed.

I don't think that highly of Saturn. That money would have been much better invested in Chevy, and on improving their sport compacts there. Just another redundant brand within GM that's sapping money away from the more important brands like Chevy.

Saturn isn't doing much import fighting either, and has even gone as far as to use a Honda engine in their Vue Redline. What does that tell me the consumer?.

The thing about Saturn is, they have a HUGE vested interest in their Customer Satisfaction.

It's hard to walk away from that since it's been so high, so long.

The thing is , GM needs to find a way to take advantage of all this hard work.

Honda uses GM deisels overseas so they trade us their engines instead of money. The engines have to go into something why not a Saturn?

Since only the base/stripy ion-1 sedan has been reduced by a $1000 and that model doesnt have Air Conditioning. In fact the only two options available on the ion-1 sedan is ABS and side airbags.

NO A/C =
